The Coming Health Care Bubble...

One thing that both Conservatives and liberals alike need to acknowledge is that we have a health care system that is on the verge of not merely falling apart but ready to take the entire country down with it. There are so many problems with the system that it's difficult to unravel them all. For instance, there are far too many different entities that are dependent on the health care system: lawyers, doctors, patients, insurance companies, medical records, etc. By the time everyone gets their piece of the pie, the whole thing becomes too expensive for everyone.

If a doctor ever misdiagnosis something like Sepsis, Meningitis, or any other malady that can potentially be life threatening, their career is likely through. . . On top of diagnosing the patient, you also have to think of all of the potential law suits and do every test and procedure necessary to make sure and avoid it.”

No you don’t. You just have to stay within the ambit of acceptable medical practice. Med mal cases are extremely difficult for a plaintiff to win, much less pursue.

“While tort reform is a concept that would take a full research paper to cover, there is one change that can be implemented right away. That is making the loser pay any law suit. This simple change would cut down immediately on the number of law suits. Putting a cap on damages is another idea however it’s hard to put a price on a life especially when it is taken with negligence.”

How American! Fix it to where your patients can’t afford the risk of suing you.

1)Get the government out of the health insurance business

2)Make insurance policies for serious needs and catastrophes. $5k deductible and 100% coverage above that. I have that & my premiums are less than 1/3 my brother’s plan which has drug and office visit co pays that are next to nothing. But at the end of the year I am guaranteed to spend less than he does, even if I meet my deductible! And I have a heart problem.

3)Allow consumers to buy policies with certain types of coverage as a la carte. We are way past having children, why must we pay for maternity coverage? I don’t need drug addition coverage, nor coverage for going to a mental health practitioner. We should be able to buy streamlined coverage, not Hummer sized polices that force coverage we will never want or need. Want to quadruple the cost of a service? Have the government mandate coverage of it for everyone. Seen it happen over and over.

Want to make drugs cheaper? No co pays. All drugs must be paid out of pocket. You will be astonished at how quickly the prices plummet. I watched drug costs skyrocket right after PCS plans became common in the early 70s. No question of the cause and effect.

None of the above will happen. Mostly just the opposite. No lessons have been learned. Especially by that dipstick Romney. He’ll never see my vote.

Nonsense. Practicing within the standard of care will not stop you from being sued for a bad outcome. It will not stop a bloodsucker from claiming you did not practice within the standard of care, it will not stop you from having to pay to defend yourself against said bloodsucker, and even if a jury finds you did practice withing the standard of care, and you "win" the case, your "winnings" are $100 grand of legal bills, a black mark in the national practitioner's database, unwanted time off work and years of aggravation.

I’m not sleazy. Malpractice suits really are hard to prove and costly to pursue. Firms will not do it if there is not a really good case. In Arkansas, must have an affidavit from a medical expert before you can even file suit.
