Airport Chic - what to wear

If you are like me and have illusions of sauntering my way through airports looking like one of the celebs (a stylish one, of course!), then here's a few observations I have made from my recent travelling experience. These are things NOT to do:

* Do not wear lycra shiny legging with zips from heel to knee. Not a good look * Do not wear hiking boots caked with last weekend's rural getaway. It tends to get messy on the plane

* Do not wear a top five times too big for you in fluoro, especially if you have a big chest

* Do not wear overpowering perfume - although I know this one is hard to adhere to if you have been in the duty free section

* Do not wear a suit - are you kidding? (this refers to international travel only)

* Do not wear an Adidas-style tracksuit - they have their time and place

* Do not wear long boots - they are too hot to wear on the plane

Do, however, do the following:

* Accessorise ever so stylishly, with a colourful pashmina or scarf. This will not only add to your outfit, but is handy at keeping you warm on the plane when required

* Do take a decent handbag. One big enough to fit your toiletries, passport, purse, etc, and one stylish enough that when you are browsing Coach, Gucci and Burberry in duty free you feel confident

* Do wear suitable shoes that when you take them off on the plane you are not going to shock the rest of the cabin (i.e. - ones that breathe)

* Do remember your sunglasses, for when emerging into the daylight of your destination (or nighttime)

* Do wear stretch and cotton fabrics (no lycra leggings allowed)

* Do take a traveller size kit with toiletries to freshen up, and a nice lipstick or gloss with a bit of colour to brighten you after the hydration sapping journey.

I still have another 4 hour leg of my flight to go, so who knows - I may have some further fashion disasters to report in the near future!
