He said his new government will put "housing, employment and economic reform" on its agenda.

"I am against police confrontation with people... We must respect people's tastes especially the youth," said Mr Ahmadinejad, whose opponents say was only re-elected through vote rigging.

No doubt Khamenei and his ruling clique are floating this as a trial balloon to gauge international and internal reaction and try to cool the protesters' passions. If reports of Iranian plans to meet July 9 protests

Too bad most Iranians had boycotted the televised speech:

Iranian twitterers are claiming victory in a coordinated series of blackouts during Ahmadinejad's televised speech yesterday:

The protesters had earlier pre-arranged a call for Iranians to plug in heavy power load household devices such as dryers, irons and toasters at 9:45pm local time, as Ahmadinejad's speech began. Online Twitter feeds claimed blackouts were achieved in East Tehran, Sari, Tabriz, Isfehan, Rodehen, Saghez, Lavasan, Ahvaz, Khoramshahr, Dezfol, Jahrom, Khomini Shahr, Shahin Shar, Folad Shahr, Kashan and some of Rasht.

Ahmadinejad Blinks!

Well, I suppose it's good that he's "blinking" ... but from the posts of the protesters, I've read on twitter, they're not buying Ahmadinejad's promises of "change."

Ahmadinejad does bring to mind a certain person squatting in the oval office!
