Question: there are times when the internet FR site is down, and we can't communicate with each other. I got the yahoo group website from here awhile back, but I don't visit it much--just went over there and found it full of SPAM and other unspeakable posts! :-O Before I unsubscribe (which I hate to do in case it is needed for emergencies) is there a way to block all that spam so only true FReeps are posted? Or is it just a waste of time? Is there a moderator? If not, why not? Any advice, help, etc. extremely appreciated!

I’ve got that site bookmarked. Problem is I got all kinds of spam mail after joining there. I know I’m an internet dork but I really don’t want “boobie girls” stacking my e-mail. My internet provider has been less than helpful about blocking that stuff. Arrgghh!

Twitter provides instantaneous coverage of events such as the July 4 2009 Teaparties. Caveat: critical thinking required. Twitter topics tend to collect garbage after an event ends. Alternatives (eg Yahoo groups) that prove invaluable during outages also tend to collect garbage between outages.

I know. I hate that spam. Fifteen or so of those things flood my mailbox daily. It never happened before I joined that site.

I don’t have that problem with spam but it maybe in the filtering system. Suggestion: cancel your sign up and do it again using a throw away email addy which you don’t have to visit. Let them fill it up with junk/spam to their hearts content. I signed up using a yahoo email and really don’t have spam problems.

Also a throw away email account is good for signing up at various sites you visit such as news papers, etc.
