WOOT! As some other astute freeper said, Alaska is knee deep with the political corpses of those who underestimated Gov. Palin.

All Her resignation does is let Her take the gloves off.

Look out, libtards. The Saracuda is unleashed!

I wish that those on this site who do not support Sarah politically would at least support her in this fight against the Dem smear machine.

We need conservative politicians who will stand up against attacks and stand up for our country.

I’m with you! Sarah has removed the handcuffs and she is now free to go after those who have tried to destroy her and our country. Go Sarah!!!

Just because she's no longer a Governor doesn't change the fact she's a public figure, right?

Isn't that the criteria for legal action?

Not sure, but maybe the fact that her lawyer warned specific parties about spreading a specific lie, it may carry more weight???

Yeah, you would think so, if a libel case went to court.

Every since Sarah came on the scene she has the been the target of the most massive character assassination attack of any political figure ever. It started with claims she had carried her daughter’s baby and included a public call by a so-called comedienne for her to be gang-raped if she shows up in New York. The election came and went and still creeps like Letterman keep smearing her and her children. She’s only human and she needs some space and time in order to cope with this, for the sake of her family. I wish her luck.

It should be at least a little easier to fight these people as a private citizen than as a public servant.

And no more bogus ethics charges. No more filing charges and having the taxpayers pick up the legal fees either.

And many of those who should have supported her have joined in on the pig pile.

She is being attacked because of her public Christian principles.

Jesus said don’t be surprised if the world hates you (Christians), so we shouldn’t be surprised. But the world’s attacks on Sarah really are outrageous.

This clearly shows how vicious the spirit of the world has become against God’s people. Hopefully, many Christians are praying for Sarah and her family.

Yes, it is, but being a public figure just raises the bar to “malice.” Being a Governor (esp with Alaska’s ethics rules) constrained her actions. That is the key.

I'm a bit confused, while hoping that she follows through on this.
I have it from a high state authority that an incumbent elected official can not sue for defamation of character while in office and neither can the sue retroactively after they leave office.

It’s not defamation of character. It is outright libel. The only defense for Libel is the truth, and when something is not proven to be true, the defense falls apart.

Governor Palin can sue Shannyn Moore, the Daily Kos, Brad Friedman of The Brad Blog, and others who reported this as news without a retraction.

And the proof of the demise of Moore’s defense is borne out in the statement about the FBI not having the governor under investigation for anything.

For note, I am a broadcaster. Radio and TV. I have to know these rules before I go out and report anything, so trust me when I say that Shannyn Moore and others are in deep deep shi’ite.

“And many of those who should have supported her have joined in on the pig pile.”

Sadly, that included many freepers (and not just the noob trolls). This place felt like LGF or DU yesterday. It (and they) suck.
