Well, the unemployed bum who wins a million-dollar jackpot is also going to conclude each and every step that lead him to buying that winning ticket, were "divinely inspired" and that his winning the lottery was for a "purpose" and "design".

Major stages in the evolution of the camera eye.

So we're all just lottery winners. Except instead of beating odds of 1 / a few million, we beat odds of what, 1 / some number with a few trillion zeros? And part of this one in a trillion gazillion jackpot was all the conditions necessary for the development of an eye, a mind that ponders its origins, and a few million other incredible things?

Are there any examples of the primitive eyes in your graphic still in existence? And what was it that told blind organisms that there was light around them that they should think about developing a receptor for in the genes they pass down? How does a simple blind creature even plan for eventual perception of the electromagnetic spectrum they can't possibly perceive or comprehend? How did they do the math necessary to develop the cells to capture the visible portion of the electromagnetic spectrum without even being able to perceive the existence of electromagnetic waves? Was it just the creatures that randomly got the good genes that randomly got the frequency range right that survived, and their cousins died off? Was that some sort of cosmic lottery too; a monkey typing Shakespeare without a typewriter or paper sort of thing? Did the primordial dice just keep rolling sevens over trillions of rolls? It takes more faith to believe all that then it takes to believe in an intelligence far beyond our ability to comprehend that possibly weighted the dice as part of a plan, no?
