Ponzi Schemers: Madoff gets 150 years, Federal Government remains free

Bernie Madoff was a crook. He deserved whatever sentence he was given in return for his willing destruction of numerous lives. Unfortunately, while Madoff rots in prison, a more deserving criminal goes unpunished. A more heinous crime goes on without prosecution.

Our federal government introduced the Social Security program in 1935 in the interest of providing for the elderly and children. Interestingly, nearly all other liberal social programs seek to “help” the same groups. However, Social Security quickly became Washington’s own massive Ponzi scheme.

The money paid into Social Security was supposed to go into an account for safekeeping, with the government serving as benevolent caretaker/investor. Upon retirement, the money would be ready for withdrawal, or at least in tiny increments as the government allowed. The reality of Social Security was much different, however. There was no mythical “lockbox.” The first Social Security recipients were funded by all those who began paying into the program. From the very beginning, the fund was used to give to those who had not paid into it.
