LAGUNA BEACH – The American Civil Liberties Union released a statement today applauding a settlement they say they reached with City Hall in connection with a lawsuit dealing with an anti-camping ordinance. According to the ACLU, the city has now agreed not to cite or arrest homeless individuals sleeping in the city, "as long as there are no reasonable public health or safety concerns" for a period of three years. The settlement also establishes a process for sealing, expunging or destroying citations and convictions issued under the now defunct ordinance, the ACLU said.

Don't forget this is the city who is the biggest supporter of ACLU values and concepts. Remember the lesbian wedding last week: (shield your eyes before opening) http://www.coastlinepilot.com/articles/2009/06/26/blogs_and_columns/lumberyard_logs/cpt-canyontocove061209.txt

would be a good idea for the homeless organizations to get some buses under contract to transport the homeless to Laguna... maybe with some contract “stim us” money... actually, the whole homeless organizations could relocate and not be hassled....

“as long as there are no reasonable public health or safety concerns”

...oh there’ll be concerns alright...street bums crapping in the park...aggressively panhandling passersby...getting in drunken knife fights...busted wine bottles in the gutter;vommit on the sidewalk....it’s gonna be just ducky!

If you have a check coming in from SS or disability, then living on a permanent camping trip in Laguna Beach, close to stores and the ocean is a pretty nice lifestyle for many men.

Camping is fun, outdoor drinking on pleasant nights is fun, and under those conditions a $150 or $250 dollars a week cash money deposited to your account means that you will always have booze, morning coffee and fast food meals with enough left over to save for vacations or motel stays.

A city passes an ordinance presumably because of "public health and safety concerns" and then says they won't enforce it as long as there are no such "concerns". Sounds like double-speak to me.

What will they do when (not if) these "concerns" start to surface (i.e. when the libs start to complain of the dirty, smelly homeless people getting too close to them and begging them for money, etc.)?

Hmmm . . . me and my acoustic think you have a wonderful idea! What's the winter weather like there? LOL! Maybe I can become the conservative Jimmy Buffett!
