LAS VEGAS Sen. John Ensign has been quick to describe his dalliance with an aide in brief and simple terms. The affair is over. The apologies made and accepted. No questions will be answered, the married Nevada Republican said in his brief admission of infidelity.
But the first public statement from the woman once involved with the 51-year-old rising political star suggests more is brewing behind Ensign's neat account.
Cindy Hampton and her husband, a couple Ensign has described as "close friends," issued sharp remarks Wednesday through an attorney.
"It is unfortunate the senator chose to air this very personal matter, especially after the Hamptons did everything possible to keep this matter private," Las Vegas lawyer Daniel Albregts said in the statement. "It is equally unfortunate that he did so without concern for the effect such an announcement would have on the Hampton family. In time the Hamptons will be ready and willing to tell their side of the story."

Soooo- Who was trying to blackmail Ensign?
Smells like they are still trying to shake him down for cash. These noises sound like they are getting ready to sue him for damamges of some sort.
The question is who was doing the blackmailing. There could be a legal issue here that this person will have to answer to in a court of law.
I cannot think the senator either wanted to do this, or is enjoying to do this. It does not make sense for the senator to come out in the open about this, unless there was some validity to his claim of blackmailing?
A report I read earlier indicates it was the husband who was doing the blackmailing?
Boy they’re sure able to cover this one. The woman’s statement doesn’t say a damn thing but it’s being heralded as news. I’m sure she will be treated not as the married whore she is, but as a heroine - so long as she will ruin a republican.
Now if she were still boffing him and helping cover it up, she would be seen as part of the evil conspiracy.
Meanwhile the dems and their families are all millionaires based on their “public service” but we’ll give them more control of the Senate over this.
Isn’t that Congressman Kennedy back in drug rehab? Another non-story involving a liberal hero.
Looks like Hamptons were trying to get something out of it...and Ensign pre-empted them.
One would hope a senator would be smarter and have better morals than this guy.
I should have written "A report I read earlier seems to indicates it was the husband who was doing the blackmailing?
If Ensign was a democrat, an affair would be a welcome addition to his resume, and he’d be re-elected in a landslide!
He said Mr Hampton was the blackmailer. But no doubt it was an agent of Soros.
I don't think anyone was, are it has not been proved, but I do smell one hell of a sexual harassment suit coming.
Who was “HE Said”, he sure gets around a lot???
I hope he told them he was going public. Beyond that, if the story was going to break anyway, he would never be able to claim he kept it private for the “other woman”.
Sorry, but if you sleep around with a public figure, you shouldn’t really expect to be able to keep it private.
This will all help in the reelection of Harry Reid, a former Ensign opponent.
