Good luck to you with the e-cig. I use them and love the things! Best thing ever invented..and I don’t miss my tobacco cigs at all.
I make my own flavored liquid like Randall does too..great stuff.

Thanks, guys. I ordered a DSE901 from e-smokeytreats yesterday. Hopefully I’ll have it Monday. I’ll have two attys, four batteries, a charger, five blank carts, and one bottle of 36mg Marlboro juice.

I’m a one pack a day MB Light smoker; how many ml of the juice do you think I’ll go through in a day?

Randall, did you notice an initial unpleasant taste with the 901, caused by some kind of primer in the atty, that some people have mentioned? I’m thinking of just doing an initial cleaning of the attys (e-smokey’s recommended cleaning is boiling water for 1 minute, blow dry, and prime with a drop of juice).

Can’t wait to get started. I’ve tried all the cessation aids, some multiple times, with no luck. Maybe this will be the answer.

Best.

YAAGH! I’m glad you asked, you were about to do the wrong thing to your attys.
The attys are primed with a protectant, and sometimes it’s kinda thick. If you make sure that your cart is topped off so the atty isn’t dry, you shouldn’t have a problem.
If you’d have boiled them, they might not work at all afterwords.
My 901 worked right out of the box.
You might also want to get a USB passthrough, too. It’ll save on your batteries.
I never have had to place a drop of eliquid on the atty. And it voids the warranty in some models, too.
If the light flashes red 16 times, you’ve drawn too long and the 901 needs to cool for a few seconds. If it flashes 5-6 times, the battery needs recharged.
Any other questions, I’ll be here.

So how do you clean your attys, and how often?

And, assuming proper care and use, how long will these attys and batteries normally last before I need to replace them?

Thanks again.

Kev, Ditto on what Randall said. In addition, I use the USB passthrough and a Kensington Portable Battery Pack. If you use the E-cig alot, you may want to consider the battery pack since you will be constantly charging the batts that come with the kit. Also, I would get more atomizers if you decide this works for you and you stay with using the e-cig.
Oh, the Kensington is from Best Buy-— Kensington-Portable Power Pack for Select Mobile Devices-Black-K38021

On atomizer life span, it depends I guess on how they are taken care of. I just gently blow out through the battery hole to remove any extra liquid then set them on a piece of paper towel to drain overnight. The pin hole side up (battery connection side up). I have had two go out on me since I started using them in March.

Well without cleaning at all, I cooked my first atty in about 12 days. They're still relatively cheap though, depending on where you get them. I've tried the coffeemaker cleaner, rubbing alcohol, soapy water, boiling, etc. Lately, I have been soaking them in rubbing alcohol for about an hour, blowing them out with canned air, then letting them sit overnight. Eventually, they'll just die -which is why we've been trying to create an atty that'll last in case there's a ban.

And, assuming proper care and use, how long will these attys and batteries normally last before I need to replace them?

The batteries I have are still working good, but their charge time is starting to dwindle. Again, they're still cheaper than cigarettes.

I just read through two e-cig forum threads, one about various cleaning methods, the other about not cleaning at all. The consensus on this thread is that no cleaning at all, other than the occassional blowout and overnight drain, is best:

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/experiments-equipment/18688-who-doesnt-clean-their-atomizers.html

And thanks much for the heads up on boiling. I just read also that a plastic o-ring separates the positive and negative poles in the atty. Boiling could melt or damage that o-ring enough to kill the atty.

I’ll let you know how it goes later next week, after I have a few days “vaping” under my belt.

“Today is my 19th day without a cigarette for a 30-year smoker.”

Keep it up! It can be done. My dad has been smoke-free for 5 years now after smoking for 43 years!!!

Please do.
Also, a delivery of new BE112 ecigs just came to my door. I got a batch of the RY4 flavored carts.
OMG! That RY4 flavoring is just awesome! You’ve got to try it sometime.
I just ordered 50ml of it, and am searching for a DIY recipe.

I appreciate the info. Giving up the stogies is my next project. I’m going to try those e-cigs and see how it works for me.

OK, guys. My 901 arrived yesterday morning. Worked right out of the box, without any of the problems I’ve heard others have. (Sucked to have to wait four hours to charge a battery, though.) Vapor production is not bad, but throat hit is decent, and I’m definitely getting my nic fix (32mg MB flavor).

I’ve had only one “analog” in the past 20 hours. Fired one up on the porch last night before going to bed. But that was more out of routine than necessity, I think.

This *is* working better than I thought it would. Funny thing is, I still have the desire to light up an analog, but it’s not an overwhelming desire. Again probably more routine than necessity — when I think about the trouble of going outside to light up, it’s meh, I’ll just vape.

Just ordered the passthrough and a few more atomizers. I’m going to have to try to get down to the lower nic level juices quickly though; it seems the 36mg is getting hard to find.

Thanks again for the advice. Vape on, FRiends....

The routine, “Must have a smoke now because I always do,” feeling came to me as well. When they did, I would just start powerhit the ecig continuously until it passed.

Did you get any eliquids?

I currently have only a 15ml bottle of 32mg Marlboro flavor from e-smokeytreats that I ordered with my 901.

This morning I ordered two bottles from myvaporstore: 1) 30ml of 24mg Marlboro, and 2) 30ml of 24mg Rye4. They should be here by Thursday/Friday. As I said, I’m hoping the 24mg will be enough, because it looks like the 36mg is getting harder to find. And sometime this week I might go to Michael’s craft store to get a bottle of VG to cut the 36mg stuff. You think cutting with VG would affect atty life at all?

If I like one of those two flavors, then I’ll get the 250ml bottle for $110. That’s the best deal I’ve seen yet ($.44 per ml) without having to order from abroad.

I’m going to give this e-cig smoking a week. If it seems to be the ticket, then I’ll probably buy one of those Screwdrivers, like you have. Can get six replacement batteries for the price of just one 901 battery = long-term savings. Plus, the SD works with all my 901 attys anyway, right?

You are just going to LOVE the RY4! That's some yummy stuff.
You can get 16oz of VG at Vitamin Cottage Natural Grocers for $7.99. It's a better vapor producer than propylene glycol, and tastes better. Attys are fine with VG. Get spares, though. They still don't last and are considered disposable items (until someone builds a better one in their garage someday).

I'm wondering if some FReeper who knows electronics could solve the atomizer issue...

There are 2 different models of SD they sell. One works with the 901, one works with the BE-112 (I have the 112 model). Make sure you email Trog and ask him to be sure.

What’s the advantage of the BE-112? My understanding is that replacement parts for the 901 are much more plentiful from many more suppliers.

By the way, have you done any cart filler reloading? I’ve read you can use Walmart poly-filler, fluval from PetSmart, tea bags, or even coffee filters. Have you found what works best? I only have nine carts, so will need to reload fairly soon. (I messed up one of my blanks yesterday — tried to pull out the filler to fill from the bottem, but the filler kind of stuck to the cart sides and so I pulled some of it apart trying to get it out.)

Well, I didn’t know that the SD model I ordered didn’t take the 901 carts/attys, but the BE-112s. No real difference, they’re just bigger than the 901s.

As for refilling the carts/ It’s all I’ve been doing. I bought a bottle of tobacco flavored 36mg eliquid from Totally Wicked and it was pretty dern good for just starting off. But after reading the recipe forums over there, I’ve got a batch of flavorings on it’s way from Lorann’s right now. And I have a large handful of my pre-SCHIP tobacco in a container with a little vodka, extracting the nicotine for some homemade goodies.

Just a couple of drops in the cart and it’s recharged nicely. I’ve yet to buy a cart -still using the ones that came with the original order.

Three days (and counting) analog-free on the e-cig!!! I do have desires to fire up an analog, but when I think about actually lighting one up, suddenly the smoke, smell, and feeling of it is just not that appealing, and the desire passes quickly. Hard to describe, but I am acquiring a *REAL* repulsion to analogs.

RANDALL: I read an older post by you on the e-cig forum, about how you were experimenting replacing the cart poly-fill with a coffee filter. How did that work? I noticed that the cart I have been using the past few days is not tasting as well as originally. I know I can probably wash it out and reuse it a couple of times, but eventually I will have to replace it with something. The fish-filter fluval from PetSmart seems to be one of the most popular choices, but I wanted to hear from you first about your attempts with a coffee filter.

By the way, my passthrough (and RY4 juice, mmmmmmmmm!!!) arrived today. I am happily vaping as I type, with no worries about battery life. I’m using my Ipod charger, but am thinking of picking up the Kensington battery/charger that Arbee recommended.
