WASHINGTON Senate Republicans on Wednesday failed for a fourth time to break a Democratic filibuster thwarting a vote on President Bush's nomination of Miguel Estrada for a federal appeals court.
Republicans need 60 votes to end the filibuster and then a majority to approve Estrada for a seat on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. Their latest effort again fell short, this time by a 55-44 vote.

Republicans have accused Democrats of treating Estrada unfairly because he is a conservative Hispanic.

I have an idea where Schumer was.............
“The conservative puts lotion on its skin”. ;-)
Just change Estrada’s name to Sotomayor and everything will be fine.
“Just change Estradas name to Sotomayor and everything will be fine.”
That’s about it.
Schumer boasted the Republicans will be afraid to vote against Sotomayor, because they will alienate the Hispanic people.
But did the Dems alienate the Hispanic “leaders” when they filibustered against Estrada FOUR TIMES?
The Republicans need to FIGHT against Sotomayor’s confirmation just as the lib Dems fight against Hispanic CONSERVATIVES.
> Schumer boasted the Republicans will be afraid to vote against Sotomayor, because they will alienate the Hispanic people.
First. Chuckie Schumer doesn;t know his brain from his ass. Are we going to -revisit the McCain “policy” that appeasing the spanic’ vote will get us into the win column? Yep, the good that did last November.
While I in no way endorse what the Dems did there, Bush blew it by nominating him for the DC Circuit. No one cares about the DC Circuit. If Bush had nominated Estrada for the SC and not wasted time with the DC Circuit, he would have been confirmed easily, just as Sotomayor will.
In fact, even if Bush had nominated him for the SC after he was fillibustered for the DC Ct, he still would have been confirmed.
The dems were never going to fillibuster the 1st hispanic Justice.
Now, I have no complaints about Roberts and Alito, but Bush blew it with Estrada by wasting time with the DC Ct.
