It’s frustrating being the political majority…

AP news:

Frustrated liberals are asking why a Democratic-controlled Congress and White House can't manage to close the Guantanamo prison or keep new gun-rights laws from passing.

After all, President Barack Obama pledged to shut down the military detention center on Cuba for suspected terrorists. And Democratic control of the government would suggest that any gun legislation leads to tighter controls on weapons, not expanded use.

Even as they grouse, however, liberal lawmakers acknowledge that no one factor explains last week's disappointing back-to-back votes in Congress.

The Obama administration is focused on other priorities, they say. Party leaders don't want to endanger Democratic lawmakers from conservative districts by stressing divisive issues such as gun control.

On Guantanamo, many say, Obama and his allies were caught napping as Republicans stirred public fears about relocating suspected terrorists.

"I think it's one of the few times that he didn't think it all the way out," said Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md., an unabashed admirer of the president.

"One of the few times that he didn't think it all the way out" and was caught napping? Rofl!

Is it the vast right-wing conspiracy that forced President Obama to not think it all the way through and sign an executive order within a week of being sworn into office to close Guantanamo? An EO that was all window dressing and no substance? No plan in place first as to what to do with the detainees? If not Gitmo, then what?

Part of it is that Obama likes being popular and doesn’t want to risk that.

It’s the old question of what will the car-chasing dog do once he catches it.

Let’s bring on the divisive issues. There was some grumbling about gays in the military from the leftists on that issue. Ditto with the Defense of Marriage Act. Let’s bring those out. It’s true, since we have a Democrat congress and a Democrat president, why don’t they bring these issues on? Theoretically they have the votes to make any changes they want.

“Obama and his allies were caught napping as Republicans stirred public fears about relocating suspected terrorists.”
Thank God the adults show up once in a while. Obama and his allies are liberal socialist idiots, and that's the only nice thing I can find to say about them. Obama and the DemonRATs are about to find out that America isn't a far left loony bin, the loonies are just the loudest mouths in the crowd, and they happen to have a stranglehold on the media. Most Americans are outraged over the leftist direction Obama is trying to go, and the ones that aren't are the ones that aren't paying attention. Yet.

They should just explain to the hardcore left that all of those promises were onlyfor their votes nd now they they conned the middle they can’t do what they promised if they want to be elected again. Contrary to what they told the left, their policies are in direct contrast to what most Americans want andare not the majority opinion. To most politicans it is all about the next election.
