Reid: Keep Gitmo Detainees Out of the U.S.
Weekly Standard ^ | 5/19/2009 | staff

Earlier today Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said at a news conference that he doesn't want any Gitmo detainees held in prisons in the United States. CQ has the transcript:

QUESTION: (inaudible)

REID: Change course on what?

QUESTION: On funding the closing of Guantanamo Bay.

REID: Well, the decision to close Guantanamo was a right one.

I agree with President Bush. I agree with John McCain. I agree with Barack Obama. Guantanamo makes us less save.

However, this is neither the time nor the bill to deal with this. Democrats under no circumstances will move forward without a comprehensive, responsible plan from the president.

We will never allow terrorists to be released into the United States. [...]

QUESTION: But Senator, Senator, it's not that you're not being clear when you say you don't want them released. But could you say -- would you be all right with them being transferred to an American prison?

REID: Not in the United States.

Guantanamo makes us less [safe].

Why is that?

“Guantanamo makes us less [safe].”

Aside from being grammatically incorrect; it is also factually incorrect.

Exactly. Why does the existence of Guantanamo make us less safe?

Is there a lib around here who can answer that question?

So far not a single United States Senator has said he's OK with having these pukes sent to his or her state.

Reid knows that means something.

Did Reid find a bottle of smart pills somewhere?

Reminds me of a trick my big brother pulled on the school bully once. We raised rabbits and he scooped out some turds once and left them out to dry and harden. He then put them in one of mom's old prescription bottles and told the bully they were smart pills.

The bully saw the drug label and figured they were something that might give him a buzz, so he grabbed two and ate them.

"These taste like s***! He screamed."

"See," said my brother, "they're already making you smart!"

Because it’s a PR problem that makes people want to clobber us? (No, I don’t believe this, but that seems to be the party line.)

They should be taken to every Democrat’s district and turned loose. Kathy Castor could use about a hundred of them in her district. Tell the Democrats “Yu wanted the bastards, here they are You got them.”

Either that or he’s afraid of something happening to the citizenry and had nightmares about being tarred and feathered.

Either that or God or one of His angels paid him a visit and made it pretty clear where he was heading if he kept up his behavior.

The regular citizenry would suffer, not them.

There was only one other possible destination but Bush closed the door to that possibility when he closed the Navy base in Vieques.

I’m from the Virgin Islands BTW and I remember when I was young in St. Croix hearing the thumps and thuds from the battleship guns and when I visited my relatives in Vieques, you could hear the machine guns firing beyond the mountains.
