Lt. Colonel Bill Russell (USAR ret.) ran against John Murtha in the 2008 Congressional campaign and plans to run against him again in 2010. A fifth generation soldier, Russell began his military career as an Enlisted man, attended West Point, graduated from Louisiana State University, and earned his commission through Officer Candidate’s School at Fort Benning, Georgia.
Russell has been nothing but a credit to the uniform he wore, while his once and future opponent has disgraced his uniform with the fraudulent massacre charges he brought up against marines serving in Iraq and the way he has used the defense budget as his own personal pork-barrel.
Murtha found a new way to disgrace the uniform he once wore, by having one of his aides threaten to have Bill Russel returned to active duty so he can be court marshaled:

CRITICS OF A NEW drug intelligence center say it’s redundant given that 19 similar agencies already exist. President Clinton, reinventing government notwithstanding, has welcomed the center, which an influential lawmaker had located in his home district - but far from the drug war and policy-makers.
There are many places in the United States notorious for drug smuggling. Johnstown, Pa., is not generally considered one of them.
Yet an abandoned department store in Johnstown, a slumping steel town in the Allegheny Mountains, is the home of the federal government’s new National Drug Intelligence Center.
Its mission: to collect and analyze information on smugglers and traffickers.
Its cost: $50 million through 1994.

I’ve lost faith in voters in that district. They’re sold out to their pork addiction. If there was ever a time to unseat a congressturd who’d repeatedly denigrated his constituents, ‘08 was it. I fear Murtha will be sitting in that seat as long as he wants it.
