Obama and the 9/11 Families
Wall Street Journal ^ | 05/07/2009 | Debra Burlingame

In February I was among a group of USS Cole and 9/11 victims' families who met with the president at the White House to discuss his policies regarding Guantanamo detainees. Although many of us strongly opposed Barack Obama's decision to close the detention center and suspend all military commissions, the families of the 17 sailors killed in the 2000 attack in Yemen were particularly outraged.

They had and have every right to be outraged.

“Believe . . . feel . . . hope.
We’d been had.
Binyam Mohamed — the al Qaeda operative selected by Khalid Sheikh Mohammed (KSM)
for a catastrophic post-9/11 attack with co-conspirator Jose Padilla —
was released 17 days later.”

Mohamed was flown to the UK on a Gulfstream with culturally appropriate meals, no doubt served on a white table cloth with china and Waterford.
George Bush kept him at Gitmo,
Barry sends him to the UK in luxury.

Pinging Michael Savage.
“ Yet he ( Mohammed) has been given temporary leave to stay by Home Secretary Jacqui Smith,
with Downing Street refusing to say why he was not sent packing to his own country.”

All an Obama apologist, even among the families deceived at the White House meeting, has to say to this editorial’s assertions is “President Obama had to do what he feels is in the best interests of the whole country, not just these poor families” and that’s it. They can still go on believing in him. It’s going to take something really spectacular in the way of an event, or perhaps simply boredom, to diminish that faith because the opponents are tuned to emotional appeal, not reason and fact.
