The Politico graphically illustrates just how ugly the political civil war is getting in the aftermath of Arlen Specter leaving the party.
Faced with a high-profile defection and the prospect of political irrelevance in the Senate, Republicans took off the gloves Wednesday for a ferocious game of finger-pointing.
Republican Sens. Orrin Hatch and George Voinovich blamed the Club for Growth for imposing a right-wing litmus test that chased Arlen Specter out of the Republican Party. The Club for Growth blamed Specter first for helping to ruin the GOP and then for leaving it. A leading Republican strategist blamed the party for turning its back on moderates. Sen. Lindsey Graham sniped at Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele. Specters pollster blamed the stimulus bill. Karl Rove blamed Specter himself.

“the GOP is STILL the best hope we have”
The centrist, middle-of-the-road, moderate GOP?
Every article I’ve read on Specter’s defection describes him as a “moderate” Republican. Then they make a point of mentioning other “moderates”—like McCain, Snowe & Co. who want to: “bring the GOP to the center”.
You’ve drunk the MSM Kool-aid, Jayhawk/or Wildcat.
To the Associated Press, NYT & Co., “moderate” means Arlen Specter.
The “GOP moderates” can go pound sand in a rat-hole.
After reading your comments about purging the party of RINO’s.....I absolutely agree.....we need to get back to our conservative roots and the RINO’s can go Dem or fund their own loser party.....
PS When was the last time you saw a Democrat, like Pelosi, Kennedy, Obama or Kennedy, described as:
“liberal Democrat” ___________? Never, because it is assumed that they are “moderates”.

What civil war?
The present Republican party stands for nothing and is fighting for nothing. They’re not fighting their base so much as ignoring their base.
A civil war would be refreshing. Conservatives would have someone to root for.
then this political civil war is all about power. That said, Demint has weighed in on this so you will see conservatives attempting to get their position down.
This last election was the second of a two election referendum on the republican party. Now the party continues to implode instead of getting its act together on putting out a message that people want to follow. Obama lied out his bony ass to get elected. There is a chance that a good candidate with a limited government message could win and the same holds true for the mid-term. If the party is going to have dipshits like Bachman spouting off and becoming the face of the party then the country is done. Her rightwing version of moonbatism gets worshiped around here but trying to wonder why swine flu comes back under a democrat in 2009 when it was last seen under Carter was moronic.
Excellent. Thoughtful. Cogent. Understandable.
No undefined “I’m a FULL BORE CONSERVATIVE.”
So refreshing.
which is what i was trying to point out. ceding the title “moderate or middle” is a mistake. we’re the middle.
I got an email this morning that claimed Spector began his political career as a Democrat and switched to the Republican Party many years ago. Since he switched back he should now be known as Spector the Defector. I have no idea if that is true or when he might have changed parties the first time. Interesting.
I don’t hear moderate Democrats complaining about the hard left turn their party has taken. I don’t understand it either- I know moderate and even conservative Democrats and many have stopped voting. It seems there are enough far lefties to replace them though.
Also, EVERY Party will include HUMANS!
Those HUMANS will NOT agree on everything.
Any 3rd Party will have the SAME problems as the GOP. -— Plus ONE BIGGER PROBLEM: YOU WILL NEVER WIN WITH A 3rd PARTY!
So, you solve NOTHING and you bring on even more defeat!
Why should we feel such an urge?
Let it go. It is only a problem in your mind, and nowhere else.
Let Bachman be Bachman. Worry about how she VOTES, not what she says!
Specter was born in Russell Kansas, just like Bob Dole.
Not that I am proud of that fact, where Specter is concerned.
So did Spector start off as a Democrat?
A Democrat in his youth, Specter joined the Republicans in 1966; however, on April 28, 2009, he announced his intention to return to the Democratic Party.
If that makes me a "moonbat", then you can bite my hairy arse.
I just watched the girly boy Shemp on Fox interviewing Mike Pence.
Shemp asked Pence if the new initiative in the GOP was to reign in the far right.
God help me. Did the democrats reign in the far left?
I think not. We have a far leftist sitting as POTUS.
If anything, that should tell us something.
Can you dig it?
