Stimulus Package as it Pertains to Alaska - Governor Palin's Compromise on Stimulus Largely Accepted
Alaska Governor Sarah Palin's Accomplishments ^ | Wednesday, April 29, 2009 | Ron deVito

This is in response to questions and comments I have received pertaining to this announcement:

Just like at the federal level, a state legislature can override a governor's veto. So, if Governor Palin had vetoed, yes it would have been overridden -- the legislature overwhelmingly wanted that money. Of course, since she is the one signing the bill, those who hate Governor Palin are accusing her of being a hypocrite -- this is why we need to be well-informed about this matter. It's complex, and quite frankly -- dry subject matter -- and easy to just "sloganeer".

Had the legislature not accepted her compromise -- had they just blindly ramrodded it through -- veto would have been the right thing for Governor Palin, and that's what I had been advocating -- even with an override. This would be to put her on the record as having rejected this money.

Once Governor Palin's compromise was accepted and her criteria complied with re: the 33% of the stimulus money she questioned -- she could not now turn around and veto what was agreed to -- when it was her criteria that was agreed to! Doing so would have been a double-cross and a back-stab.

The Governor offered a compromise that she would accept much of the that portion of the money so long as it replaced state funds and the state does not end up funding this stuff two years later when the federal money dries out. The legislators originally were not interested. That was a circumstance for which veto was indicated. That circumstance changed 180 degrees.

Sarah is brilliant! She took out the “strings,” so that the state of Alaska won’t be dependent on the federal government, after the money dries up.

I still can’t get over how corrupt and crooked the Alaska Legislature is. It seems like their only goal in life is to trash Sarah Palin and make her look bad.

“It seems like their only goal in life is to trash Sarah Palin and make her look bad.”

Yeah, the dems take their marching orders from 0bama/Axelrod, and a lot of the repubs are bitter Murkowski supporters. All her enemies get help from the highly organized Axelrod supported bunch of bloggers up there who file all these phoney “ethics” complaints.

This just goes to show that people can not decide years ahead who the nominee will be. It gives the opponents too much time to plan their strategy and it completely takes God out of the picture. Who likes the idea of someone being selected years ahead of time, even before a primary? It is a big put off especially for people who already aren’t impressed. You are just asking for trouble. You have a really good chance of getting your way and Palin getting the nomination, but that is all you will get.

No governor in the country has lead on this issue as she has. Reagan would be proud.

-- She rejected funds that would force changes in state law.
-- She replaced state funds with federal funds where she could ($130 million).
-- She forced the legislature to clearly state in the legislation that when the funds ran out, the programs were gone.
-- She secured commitments from the education community that money would be spent consistent with "one-time" funds.
-- She made sure the public was educated on the consequences of being enslaved to federal handouts.
-- She called out Obama publicly and said he should veto this piece of crap called "stimulus"

Kudos to the Governor.

Away with you Palinoid. Tell your woman to learn how to talk then maybe you might have something. Tell her to learn not to sound like a political hack who fills her sentences with meaningless filler words.
