Glenn Beck was railing against hand purifiers. “If you don't get sick, the germs will KILLllllll you.”

Idiot.

There are over 300 strains of the common cold. Once you have one strain, you are immune to that strain forever. We keep getting colds, however, because those 300 keep making the rounds. Having a cold and fighting it makes you no stronger to fight off another. What determines how badly you come down with a cold is based upon your strength and energy when you're expose, your natural, genetic predisposition to tolerating that virus, and how virulent that particular strain is.

If Glenn Beck wants to try to catch all 300+ strains, he's free to. But he may want to walk around an IT shop in a corporation and see how many people of foreign origin work there — and how frequently they travel back to their home country to visit family, and come back with some nasty-ass cold or other virus.

Me, however, I hate having colds. I use hand sanitizer hoping that, even if the alcohol doesn't immediately kill the virus, the moments of dryness immediately following evaporation may. I've noticed that I don't have as many colds as I used to and feel no “weaker” because of it.
