Yeah, when he said we aren’t a Christian nation I got three phone calls all within a matter of minutes. Where are we headed guys and gals? I’m not happy in the least right now.
I think you’ve got your atheists - who frankly don’t give a damn about any balanced view of history that CLEARLY reveals the Christianity of this nation’s founders, and the fundamental relationship between the Judeo-Christian worldview and the compacts and charters that formed the states, and then the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution that formed the nation.
And then you have your rank and file masses who are completely ignorant of history and who have been indoctrinated to understand “Christian nation” to be a synonym for “Christian theocracy,” and therefore reject that we are in fact a Christian nation.
I would love to see liberals compile a list of conservatives who have called for a protestant pope or a Christian ayatollah to rule over the nation in the name of a theological system. But that is the straw man they have created in describing what a “Christian nation” would mean.
And what does it mean? It means recognizing the intimate historical and philosophical relationship between Judeo-Christianity and America, and to allow that relationship to inform and reflect upon our laws and our society.
