Here’s a link to one of the tv stations in the district, but pick your own favorite(s):
Oddly, I’m in the 19th district. I would need to pack a lunch and dinner to reach the 20th.
“Oddly, Im in the 19th district. I would need to pack a lunch and dinner to reach the 20th.”
Interesting. Do you get some of the same tv stations that we do, or don’t you know?
Probably not. Closest to me is probabl Hudson, which is 2+ hours from me. Been there several times because of the Firmen’s home. Did research in the library and my sisters father-in-law recently died there. But the jerrymandering is just weird.
And if the media won’t be our voices, we can always write a short letter to the editor simply stating that the Justice Dept. didn’t give enough time - they only allowed 30 days - but U.S. Election Assistance Commission asks for at least 45 days.
I’m not sure how to address the deadline or time line for military ballots or even overseas ballots. That is an issue that crosses all voting boundaries and isn’t unique to just this race in NY. I think the military could do a better job of placing a priority on this situation.
A hint: leave any other html such as paragraph breaks out of the post and those links you inserted will work. Other wise they have to be copied/pasted as yours does.
Just say the Justice Dept. didnt give enough time - they only allowed 30 days - but U.S. Election Assistance Commission asks for at least 45 days which probably isn’t enough time for all of the military votes to arrive on time.
But if you want to say more, you can read the material in the links.
My point is states are allowed to hold their elections and set dates/guidelines. They vary from state to state in filings/party primaries/deadline dates/etc. All I’m saying is that it seems that for Federal type offices and maybe state offices also there needs to be some standardization across the nation for military absentee ballots. Today we don’t have that. I don’t want the feds stepping in and telling the states how to hold/conduct their state elections but for federal offices maybe there should be guidelines.
One possiblility is to hold the election results in abeyance should the military absentee ballot request outnumber the winning margin. If by the deadline for returning them brings in more returned absentee ballots than the winning margin then they should be opened and counted.
It’s a problem that will take some time to remedy for sure.
Correction, meant to say:
Just say “the Justice Dept. didnt give enough time - they only allowed 30 days which probably isnt enough time for all of the military votes to arrive on time, especially in war zones, Iraq and Afghanistan.
The U.S. Election Assistance Commission asks for at least 45 days. Hopefully the judge will make a new ruling to give the military more time to get their votes in.”
But if you want to say more, you can read the material in the “working links” you asked for. :)
Good idea. Why not start another thread about it?
Now Murphy ahead by 8 points.
It’s gonna be close.
Today is the 13th...Any new updates??????????
Last I heard Murphy up 25 with the count of the absentee ballots. News said it would probably take weeks.
So my question is, if it’s going to take weeks anyway, why not give the military more time to get their ballots in.
The Dems will nitpic every ballot, and I hope a fair judge makes decisions on the questionable ballots.
