I’d start with the Mayor.
On Friday, the ongoing feud between Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon and Sheriff Joe Arpaio escalated. After addressing participants at the Reform Not Raids National Summit, Gordon compared Arpaio to the racist sheriffs in the Deep South during the civil rights movement.
But at least one member of the city council disagreed with Gordon’s comments about Arpaio.
“The mayor is speaking for himself. He is not speaking for the whole council and he is definitely not speaking for me,” said Councilwoman Thelda Williams.
She told KTAR’s Ankarlo Mornings that what Gordon is doing is more likely to start violence in the community instead of resolving problems.
Arpaio fired back at Gordon’s comments. “He has no knowledge of what’s going on and I think the people of Maricopa County and the United States of America understand his garbage,” he said.
Arpaio added Gordon’s comments are an insult to him and his deputies.
