Texas Trash Off - April 4, 2009

Here are the details for Texas Border Volunteers first Adopt-A-Highway event.

We will meet around 10:30am at the "Texas Pride BBQ". It is located about 5 miles due south from IH-10 on Loop 1604. You can't miss it.

At that point I will cover the required safety issues, which shouldn't take more than 15 minutes. We can discuss lunch details at this time as well. We can then carpool to the site, which is only a mile or two down the road.

I will provide an ice chest of bottled water for our folks. I don't have an indication of what the weather will be like but I assume it could get hot.

Our stretch of highway is fairly clear of trees and shrub overgrowth. I would suggest that volunteers bring a pair of good gloves, comfortable shoes, sunscreen, hat, etc. You never know what you might run across and safety is the priority.

In addition, in my experience we don't get as many Rattlers as the TBV operations! But we do have an abundance of Copperheads. Again we need to be alert and always use caution. Wear boots and snake guards if you like.

Jim B. has offered to bring his truck and trailer for hauling the trash to the pickup point designated by TxDOT
