Palin, Steele and Other Conservative Christians Not ‘Normal’? More Hypocrisy from ‘Hardball’

By S.E. Cupp Republican Commentator

Chris Matthews, along with Lois Romano of the Washington Post and David Corn of Mother Jones, devoted 10 minutes of last night’s “Hardball” to lamenting the religiosity of Republicans.

“Why does everything sound like the 700 Club?” Matthews flippantly probed his like-minded panelists. The criticism came in response to recent sound bites from Sarah Palin and Michael Steele — two very popular go-to targets of the left.

“Suspicious” is a good characterization of the liberal attitude toward Christianity. The media was “suspicious” of Palin throughout the campaign, accusing her of speaking in tongues, and admonishing her for her pro-life position.

Mind you, neither Palin nor Steele were talking about the sinister ways in which they’d like to inject their voodoo brands of religion into the lives of others. Nor were they suggesting that Christianity play a more prominent role in politics writ large.

They were simply acknowledging their own faith — how dare they.

Palin told a crowd of friendly Republicans that before her vice presidential debate against Joe Biden, she couldn’t find anyone in the McCain campaign that she wanted to pray with. (snip)

Perhaps, but Matthews implied it was some kind of cultish crusade to put a Bible at every bedside.

For her admission, Matthews doesn’t think Palin is “normal” — (snip)

And Steele, chair of the RNC, told a reporter about his own possible run for office, “God has a way of revealing stuff to you. If that’s part of the plan, it will be the plan.” To this, Romano resoundingly declared, “He’s gone off the reservation.”

And Corn said ominously, “Any time someone says ‘I’ll do this if God wants me to,’ I get suspicious.”

Question: Why was the liberal media so silent on the genocide of two million Christians and anamists in southern Sudan, and so outspoken on the Muslim problem in Darfur? Answer: The English-speaking media is both elitist and bigoted.

Read some of the comments at the bottom of the article...They really do read like they were written by a bunch of elementary school kids at recess.

Faith like Sarah’s is NOT the norm in Chris’ circles. He truly does not understand that his normal is not the way things are in fly-over country.

Maybe he should live in Oklahoma for a year and see if his perspective changes.

It figures.

These “high-minded” people see religion as a brand name. If you’re Catholic or Christian that’s boring. If you’re Hindu or Buddhist or Muslim that’s unique and interesting. To them, religion is no different than your origins. To them, being Catholic is like saying your irish. It’s my family’s roots, but I’m too smart to actually believe any of it. They think that they will be viewed as stupid if they actually believe. So when one of them spouts off and says I’m catholic or I’m christian, ask them if they believe their religion and watch how quickly they contort into “well i believe, but i don’t agree with all of their teachings, blah blah blah..” It’s because it’s not “cool” or “elistist” to be religious. In their minds it’s archaic folklore used to control humans and explain the unexplanable... something dumb people need.

It’s sad that most of these people see footage of amazing and miraculous things, but never stop and wonder if it was something bigger at work.

Revelation 20

Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. Earth and sky fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. 13 The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what he had done. 14 Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. 15 If anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

How smug will these types of indivudals be at that moment?

Screwball is “comfortable” with the kind of Catholicism that leads people to vote for pro-abortion Democrats—i.e., totally tribal Catholicism of the Boston variety.

Actual Catholicism or Christianity frightens him. It should, because all genuince Catholics and Christians are the enemies of mass murderers.
