the original tea party was aboard a ship....and the ‘indians’ were also refused permission by the brits to use their ship. I don’t see a problem.

I don’t know , I would have been surprised if they had let them. Just not the place for it.

One of the tea party’s was denied permission to throw tea in a river, as it was a pollutant.

Oh, the irony...

On every Machine gun emplacement on the USS Alabama are three words that are appropriate to this event.

"LEAD DAMMIT LEAD"

Please remind the good folks at the board that men aboard this ship died to defend this country, and you are prepared to do the same as well.

“Although members of the Commission certainly empathize with the Tea Party and its purpose, collectively they voted unanimously to deny the request since the Commission is apolitical and represents both the Federal and State Governments,” Tunnell wrote.

This "statement" makes no sense whatsoever.

Sounds more like restriction of our right to congregate! If it wasn’t a “Tea party”, I bet the gathering would’ve been approved. I wonder if we will see other parks’ use restricted.

What’s funny about this, off subject, is that I see more articles posted from the Lagniappe (which, for those who don’t know, is a fairly seat of the pants operated, I believe weekly, free local newspaper) than from the Mobile Press Register (the “main stream” local paper). The Lagniappe seems to do more investigative reporting than the “real” paper.

Here's an email I got from sweet_dianne:

"Ok... latest news on the Mobile Tea Party will be April 15 noon-2pm at the Cooper Riverside Park. The Battleship Board of Trustees did not want the Tea Party there. Help get the word out! Email mobileteaparty@yahoo.com for questions."

I will be attending with 3-4 people myself.

What the Commission needs to remember is that it was the school children of Alabama (My Mother and her Generation) who saved their dimes, nickels, and pennies to purchase our great Lady to begin with.

It was the school children of my generation who saved, and raised money to paint and repair her after that.

I am ashamed of the Commission. The Park is not just for those they deem fit to grace it. I can think of no other group (in recent history) who has been denied.

Our Great Lady surely weeps.
