I think it was 20,000, and he made the claim as a joke, in response to Magic Johnson's claim that he got AIDS from having sex with 2,000 different women.

I have since learned that it's virtually impossible for a man to get AIDS from having sex with a woman. People get AIDS from "receiving", not "giving". Which explains something that I puzzled about 20 years ago.

I knew someone who died of AIDS. He was in a long term relationship, and his partner never tested HIV positive, though they didn't find out about the infection until shortly before the first guy's death.
