This is stupid, and wasteful. Remanufacturers will pay more than recyclers, because it's more efficient to clean it, and assemble it into a new cartridge, than to melt it down.
What about their precious "Global Warming"? Don't they care about the wasted energy?
My understanding is that cases are worth about 5 times the scrap price of the brass
