Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D, NV) has just proposed that the federal government should take over the power grid in the country so that it might string power lines all across the land. At least that would be the outcome if his new proposal comes to fruition.

Reid wants created by federal fiat new "special power lines to carry renewable energy." Further, he proposes that these "special power lines" be placed where the federal government says they should be placed. He says that to do this the Federal government would "be able override states" in the placement of these power lines...

The envirnomental Nazis will squash this plan under a blizzard of lawsuits and sit-ins.

Wonder if they have the technology to select who gets electricity?

I wonder what technology they are going to use to separate the renewable electrons from the old fashioned carbon-consuming ones...:^)

Time to buy a generator.

Of course, the Feds will probably ban them too.

Candles?

fascism is “such” a special partnership

and SO much more efficient than a free market

the enviro fascists may have met their match when the gubmint strings wire on top of the spotted owls because Harry Reid’s family owns the land

Socialism: when the government takes over the means of production.

This is unreal... the power grab is absolutely unprecedented. Their actions are doing nothing more than fueling a revolt. And I think this is what they want!

“Wonder if they have the technology to select who gets electricity?”

You’ll have to wait until the next election cycle to find out for sure. Conservative districts will have their power cut a week before the election so they won’t be able to drive their electric cars to the polls to vote come election day.

Is there anything Reid doesn't want to take over?

Most people read Atlas Shrugged and become frightened into thinking could this possibly happen? It appears our democrat leaders read it and think it’s a blueprint for effective government.

No surprise: communism=the Government control of the means of production.

Pretty much a no-brainer, and the takeovers of private property will continue until the peons are helpless to overcome the government fascist ruling class....

" Is it any wonder why states are scrambling to reaffirm their sovereignty??!?"

Absolutely! The federal government has gone into overdrive lately. It seems every day we hear of another idea or proposal from one of our federal masters on how to socialize this, federalize that, or establish federal control of...|fill in the blank|.

The states had better quickly move to preserve sovereignty they can, while they still have any.

"be able override states"

Texas has it's own grid. Yo, Reid, don't mess with Texas!

Texas has it's own grid

That may be what this is all about.

>>Reid has just suggested a Nazi styled take over of business hasn't he??<<

I have said that the Nazi comparisons to obama will prove correct if zero starts handing picks and shovels to businessmen in the city and, in the name of "jobs", forces them onto buses and trains to build an autobahn. Of course, "autobahn" was just an allegory. A placeholder if you will for "green power grid" or other such nonsense.

Our future?:

We’re not disagreeing here.

My point is that these new “renewable” sources are not near existing power grids and would require connector lines, which contribute to the lousy cost model associated with the scheme.

I agree.

The extra wires, as well as the immense tracts of real estate required for "green power" will be disagreeable to many. How green will it be when we cut a boat load of trees to make way for windmills, solar panels, a large quantity of new wires, and large battery and DC-AC conversions stations?

Our present generation and grid system is compact, powerful, and reliable (not saying reliability could not be improved). Solar panels and windmills cannot compete.

Perhaps this means that the NIMBY crowd will get silenced because it is the Dem’s putting up the “green energy power lines”?

Not to mention the federal government generally speaking, just got out of the energy/power generation business.
