I wonder how they determine how many people listen to a radio program.

They do ratings, like TV. I was a subject once, they sent me a little schedule booklet and I kept track of everything I listened to on radio, for a week I think. I also received a telephone poll one other time that included all sorts of media consumption--radio, TV, newspapers.
