Some years back, then-President Bush said that Rush Limbaugh is a "national treasure." Congressional Republicans seem to think it's A-okay for political officials to praise Mr. Limbaugh.
It's just not okay for officials to even hint at criticizing anything said by the raucous radio entertainer who has spent years trying to disguise himself as a competent and truthful political analyst.
Last weekend, during a speech at the so-called Conservative Political Action Conference, Mr. Limbaugh admitted that he hopes that President Obama's economic stimulus plans fail. Reportedly, a bunch of self-styled "conservatives" in the audience actually applauded.
Yes, that is rather like passengers on the Titanic praying that the captain and crew would screw up.
White House Spokesperson Robert Gibbs responded by challenging reporters to ask Republican politicians if they agree with Mr. Limbaugh:
"I can only imagine what might have been said a few years ago if somebody might have said that on the other side relating to what was going on in this country or our endeavors overseas....
"Do they [Republicans] want to see the president's economic agenda fail? You know, I bet there are a number of guests on television throughout the day and maybe into tomorrow who could let America know whether they agree with what Rush Limbaugh said this weekend."

David Brooks, columnist at the New York Times, announced recently that "Barack Obama is not who we thought he was," but I knew all along that Obama was, like Clinton, a generic, Ivy-League-ified liberal who talked moderate to get elected. Clinton's true-color blunders put the reins of power into the hands of his conservative opposition, and left him with little more to do than stick cigars into chunky Jewish interns. I pray the same upon Bammy.
And Gibbs "can only imagine what might have been said a few years ago"? He doesn't have to imagine, he could look up what so many deranged, hate-filled Democrats said "a few years ago" about Bush and his policies, and his family.
If I knew the captain of the Titanic’s plans were doomed from the start, I, too, would hope the captain’s plans failed. That would mean that the Titanic might have been spared.
I hope Obama’s catastrophic plans fail!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey Gibbs! I want Zero to fail. So do all my friends, and 99-99/100% of my family (I have a liberal cousin in Canada).
“Yes, that is rather like passengers on the Titanic praying that the captain and crew would screw up.”
No, that’s like the passengers suggesting that the captain steer AWAY from the iceberg...
It would be like being on the Titanic and knowing you are going to hit an iceberg and almost everyone is going to die and not doing everything you can to get the captain to turn the ship about.
Uh...bad analogy, Gibbs. The Titanic SUNK.
A better analogy would have been that the passengers had prayed that SULLY would screw up.
Moron.
“Do they [Republicans] want to see the president’s economic agenda fail?”......
D.O.A.!!!
If you believe the captain is trying to save the ship, of course you want him to succeed.
But if the captain is trying to SCUTTLE the ship, you want him to fail.
Of course, if you think the captain is irrational and trying to kill you along with the ship, there is always mutiny and heaving him overboard.
No sane person wants what they consider to be dangerous and harmful to succeed.
Rush is right.
Yeah — who squealed?
Uh, which side had people meeting with our enemies and giving them assurances and comfort? Does the name Murtha ring a bell? Which side had people protesting with signs saying they support the troops... when they frag their commanding officers? How about movies depicting the assassination of a president. Any conservatives or Republicans do anything like that lately?
The captain of the Titanic didn’t try to stop the leaks by drilling more holes in the hull. And I would hope that EVERYONE on board would “hope he failed” SEEING HIM SO TRANSPARENTLY ATTEMPTING TO DO SO!
Just following the plan...Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals.
Every day, keep beating the drum. They are coming for us, America.
I don’t recall the last administration conducting personal attacks on private citizens. This all seems tasteless and show’s a lack of class.
Not to imply Limbaugh is down at Rather's level.
this is completely what we should want because when this plan does “work” and our economy plummets even further there is no possible way they can tie this to us ^_^
It’s kind of pathetic that the WH has nothing more important to do than demonize a radio personality. Amateur Hour!
