"Congress has not unlimited powers to provide for the general welfare, but only those specifically enumerated." --Thomas Jefferson

"To compel a man to furnish contributions of money for the propagation of opinions which he disbelieves and abhors, is sinful and tyrannical." --Thomas Jefferson: Statute of Religious Freedom, 1779

No man shall ever be debarred the use of arms. The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny in government." -- Thomas Jefferson, June 1776

"In questions of power, then, let no more be said of confidence in man, but bind him down from mischief by the chains of the Constitution." - Thomas Jefferson

"I think we have more machinery of government than is necessary, too many parasites living on the labor of the industrious." - Thomas Jefferson Letter to William Ludlow, 1824

"I have no fear that the result of our experiment will be that men may be trusted to govern themselves without a master." - Thomas Jefferson Letter to David Hartley; 1787

"If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be." - Thomas Jefferson

"No free man shall ever be de-barred the use of arms. The strongest reason for the people to retain their right to keep and bear arms is as a last resort to protect themselves against tyranny in government." - Thomas Jefferson

"God who gave us life gave us liberty. And can the liberties of a nation be thought secure if we have removed their only firm basis: a conviction in the minds of men that these liberties are the gift of God? That they are not to be violated but with His wrath? Indeed, I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just; that His justice cannot sleep forever." - Thomas Jefferson

A government big enough to give you everything you want, is strong enough to take everything you have. -- Thomas Jefferson

Doesn't this sound eerily familiar to what is happening in America today?

I'm still waiting for the blood of tyrants part.

“The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.”

You see that quote all the time on the net, but I’ve never seen a citation to any of his writings that would support the claim that it is in fact a Jefferson quote. Does anyone have it?

How 'bout the one where he said:

"Conservatives who are comfortable with sitting idle while 0bama and the left takeover their country will likely enjoy the taste of jackboot."

or...

"Listening to talk radio does not equal resistance."

or...

"Protesting is embarrasing."

or..

"Don't worry countrymen...we'll get those pesky British in the next election. No need to rush things."

or my personal favorite...

"My fellow patriots, why do you bother to protest when you can eat chips, drink soda and watch American Idol instead?"

it really doesn't matter because he is long gone!

I think it matters more.

Jefferson's words are remembered because he is long gone. There are people alive today who make the same wise observations and are ignored.
