The documentary offers behind-the-marquee stories on several high-profile Newbos, including NBA superstar LeBron James, Major League All-Star Torii Hunter, The Williams brothers of Cash Money Records, Dallas Cowboy star Terrell Owens, billionaire entrepreneur and Newbo pioneer Bob Johnson and musician, Multiplatinum gospel star Kirk Franklin, and television network owner Wyclef Jean.

It’s not a coincidence that many of these clowns have rather ephemeral weath - here today, gone tomorrow - because they lack financial discipline.

Ever watch Cribs on MTV? They'll showcase the home of some black rapper or athlete and it's always the same. It'll be a palatial $20 million home complete with Greek statues of "Scarface" and gold-plated toilets. In the garage will be a fleet of Bentleys, Hummers and Lamborghinis, purple with jewel-encrusted rims. The film-crew walks out to the basketball court (they all have one) and there's twelve other dudes, cornrows and oversized jerseys, just hanging out, eating BBQ. What do these guys do? Nothing but spend the money of their famous friend.

Cribs rarely showcases the white stars' homes. Most of them are boring. Sure, they'll drive a nice car and have a Harley or two and everything's paid for but the homes aren't quite as palatial. Often they'll be in gated communities next door to six-figure earners. No gold plated toilets. They know that success in the entertainment world is cyclical and that today's stars are tomorrow's has-beens and they'd better save their money. How often on the "one-hit wonder" shows do these artists make the claim, That song may have been my only hit but it put my kids through college."

That's what you can do when you're not buying jewel-encrusted purple Lamborghinis.

I watched a few minutes of this show the other night. There was an appalling scene in which some high-achieving black high school students were talking about their experiences. One young man said that when he told one of his teachers his goal of going to law school and becoming a successful attorney, she laughed at him and told him he was stupid for thinking he could get out of the ghetto. Several of the other students nodded in agreement, saying that ADULTS in their schools and communities were criticizing them for wanting to get ahead.

I mentioned this to my liberal husband and said, Barack Obama thinks that teacher should not be fired, but those students will succeed only if that teacher gets a raise and has a more modern classroom in which to teach. And he won't give the parents of any of those students the choice to take their kids out of that school and send them to a better school with teachers who will encourage their dreams instead of laughing at them.
