Very sad. A fine institution for maths and sciences. I hope the profs & students can get research funding from the stimulus bill. It could be one bright spot in the garbage bill.

I notice that they don’t list the value of the fund. If I recall, it was about 24 billion last year. How far could it have fallen?

See this tear in my eye? Closer..Closer..Look real close...bring your face right up to the screen...still can’t see it? That’s because it isn’t there.

If Mendillo couldn’t figure out that risky assets were still sitting in the portfolio while their hedges expired, and that this was a HUGE problem, she’s not fit to be running a mutual fund, much less the Harvard endowment. If other institutions are trying to figure out how to avoid this sort of situation, they’d be well advised to hire someone who’s actually qualified for the job.

$24 BILLION? Hell, just put it all in a 5% CD and you could pay the profs, give the students free tuition, and pay the electric bills for all posterity.

All the lefties talking about "big business"..the most corrupt entity after "Big government" is "Big college".
