MY GUESS — he may have had a DIFFERENT name on his “original” Illinois Driver’s Record BEFORE he applied for and had THIS license issued to him.

IF he had an older, original Illinois driver’s license from the mid-80’s (post-Columbia Univ.) with a DIFFERENT name on it, he could have made it “go away” by applying for a NEW license with his CURRENT name on it.

I could see him doing this to “legitimize” himself before running for his first public office.

wasn’t there also some question about him never registering for possible military service until he was in his 30’s or 40’s? I was always under the impression you could never be a govt. employee if you didn’t send im that info when you were eighteen?
