Off the top of my head in no particular order: Caddyshack, The Natural, Field of Dreams, The Longest Yard (old one), and Bull Durham (even though I despise Tim Robbins).
Slapshot, How can the Hansen Brothers not be on the list.
I know.
haha I’ll be sure to remember that. I actually watched the real 1951 game when it was on classic sports a few years back. It was the anniversary
We excluded sports comedies to be on a different list. Slapshot definitely would have made the cut
Good list, but I also think The Longest Yard - the original - would be a worthy addition.
And Debbie Does Dallas. /i keed /i keed
BASEketball!!!
Not being a big basketball fan, I wouldn’t put 2 basketball movies in the top 5 sports movies. Both great movies, but there are many other sports represented in movies that should be considered.
My list would include more than 5 including Rocky, Rudy, Field of Dreams, The Hustler, Brian’s Song, Hoosiers, and for fun movies, Slap Shot and Caddyshack.
I concur.
Rocky I first.
Facing the Giants.
Jake LaMotto movie—can’t think of the name right now.
>>I’m going to speak the truth right now and say what a lot of people won’t say, Pauly Shore would’ve been a 5 time Oscar winner in the 40s. For the most part the acting was terrible.<<
Those two sentences disqualify this person from any intelligent conversation. Jimmy Stewart, Clark Gable, John Wayne, Gary Cooper, Barbara Stanwyck, Bette Davis, Joan Crawford, et. al. - terrible?
Best sports movie of all time - Pride of the Yankees
Funniest sports movie - Slap Shot
Best action sports movie - Rocky I
Most inspirational sports movie - The Stratton Story
"Major League" was funny and good, though the sequels stunk. Costner's "For Love of the Game" was better, though still a chick flick. Tin Cup too.
I’m still waiting for the Hank Greenberg movie ...

Raging Bull. That was very close too.
I agree with everyones picks.....but how can we forget
Happy Gilmore
I still cry when he gets his acceptance letter...
Oh, and Miracle. I can watch it over and over...
Hoosiers shouldn't work. It is every Hollywood sports cliche known to man wrapped up in a single movie. But the cast manages to carry it all off and turn it into one of the best sports movies going.
The winner is, of course, "City for Conquest" where Jimmy Cagney is a prize-fighter who is blinded by a dirty fighter who rubs mercury in his eyes during a fight and his brother is a concert piano player who's just looking for a break and Cagney is in love with a girl, but since he's blind and living in poverty selling papers on the street he can't persue her and then one night the brother finally gets his chance to play at Carnegy Hall and Cagney has the radio on at his pathetic, little news stand and he becomes so overcome with emotion HE REGAINS HIS SIGHT!!!!!! Oh, my God!!
