One of the precursors to genocide is to deny the humanity of the intended victims.
My best guess is the attitude on DU represents maybe 10 to 15 percent of the country. Under a powerful leader, a minority of those group could be whipped up to want to actually kill conservatives.
The key is to never, ever, let ourselves be disarmed. Having a genocide against an armed population is very difficult.
The danger may be in subtle changes to laws that may end up putting prominent conservatives in prison. For example, imagine if discrimination in hiring, retention, and promotion became a criminal rather than a civil offense. Some district attorney could start indicting any prominent business leader who didn't hire enough of this group or that group.
Alternatively, they could slip in a line into a law saying that "hate speech" on the radio was a criminal offense, and assure us they were just trying to prevent extreme situations. Next thing we know, Rush and Sean are arrested. DUers would cheer such an event.
The point is that we need to stay vigilant. The DUers and their ilk are filled with hate.

The one enjoyable thing about this political disaster is rubbing my liberal friends' noses in their own incompetence. They have Congress and the White House and they're still whining about Republican "obstruction"? Sorry guys, no more Bush, no more excuses. And one month into the failed Obama administration and they're already shifting their talking points to "Bush screwed up the country so we can't do anything we promised" just as predicted.
