This Henrietta Hughes story really gets under my evil conservative skin, even as a New Yorker. I'm used to stories of lazy, shiftless people like Henrietta taking government checks for doing nothing while complaining about what they are given... but to have the President and his lapdog media doing handstands over this lady is just ridiculous. This lady should be scorned for her lack of industry and unwillingness to provide for herself, not feted like some kind of a spokesperson for the chronically lazy.

I missed the orignal story. What is her disability? There are way too many people out there on disability who are able to work. It’s been the new welfare although the porkulus bill is the new new welfare.
In regard to the colored people, there is always more that is benevolent, I perceive, than just, manifested towards us. What I ask for the negro is not benevolence, not pity, not sympathy, but simply justice. The American people have always been anxious to know what they shall do with us... I have had but one answer from the beginning. Do nothing with us! Your doing with us has already played the mischief with us. Do nothing with us! If the apples will not remain on the tree of their own strength, if they are worm-eaten at the core, if they are early ripe and disposed to fall, let them fall! ... And if the negro cannot stand on his own legs, let him fall also. All I ask is, give him a chance to stand on his own legs! Let him alone! ... your interference is doing him positive injury.
"What the Black Man Wants" speech in Boston, Massachusetts (1865-01-26)
According to the interview I heard on Kirby Wilbur’s show, the woman has relapsed breast cancer w/lymph node involvement.
Not a cheery outlook for her.
I’ve not heard anyone say this but she seemed rather well dressed for a woman living in her car.
That is sad. It is disabling. Too bad she doesn’t have family to take her in. That’s what family is for.
She had cancer.
