New Hampshire has seen the error of its ways, and will now join the Confederacy.

Who do we float the proposal too?

I think I will send this to my son-in-law he is politically connected. Mostly in DC, but he lives near (not in) Austin.

This is a very good approach.

I have said for some time now that the New Civil War will be between free people and socialists as opposed to a regional conflict, even though the South is armed to the teeth at this point. Just remember the vast majority of military and law enforcement personnel vote Republican. :)

The massive urban areas will suck revenues from the the rest of their states and the Federal goverment. The stimulus and Obama administration are about big cities and their states demanding more to suport their habits.

Time to begin the Constitution Movement. The US government has abandoned the Constitution and all pretense of following it. That negates the obligation to comply with the federal government. It should start with education and gaining of adherents, followed by support in the state legislatures of states that have not yet swallowed the kool-aid.

Get a resolution out of your state legislature that the US Constitution is the law of the land, and that it is not a living document, but can only be changed by amendment. Cite Scalia on that resolution. Require the state to analyse and determine whether a law being enforced in the state is Constitutional; create a new state "federalism" agency if you don't want to take away from the attorney general's time. Explain to the feds why their law is unconstitutional. Avoid confrontation at this stage, but don't apologize for following the law of the land.

Get more states to join in this effort, because the more there are, the more power the movement will have for when it reaches the next stage. The next stage is to refuse to follow unconstitutional edicts. If the feds come in and use force, well they probably still can, but they will get a lot of people riled up, and help the movement gain adherents.

Pass some laws that are clearly constitutional, but which the fiat courts have said are not--regarding abortion, or religious observance, or criminal procedure or penalties, or labor laws. Refuse to acknowledge the federal courts when they claim to strike them down.

When the time is right, and with the approval of sister states, the state should then pass a resolution refusing to follow the unconstitutional edicts of the federal government. Like the Declaration of Independence, the resolution should recite all the unconstitutional and tyrannical actions of the federal government, and declare that when the compact by which the nation was formed is ignored, then the breach permits dissolution of the union.

Then be prepared to defend your freedom. Pray that the military is on the side of the Constitution, and will not allow itself to be used to destroy those who defend it.

Obama knows that he can't do all the things he wants because the people who are in the military are the people who love the real America. That is why he wants to create a federal police force that is as strong as the military. Fight to prevent this gestapo from coming into being, it will make freedom that much harder to defend.

Arizona has a similar resolution

I think I read something on FR a day or so ago that there are a handful of states that have either passed or are working on passing similar resolutions. But unless the states truly are willing to work together to roll back the size and reach of the federal government, then those resolutions are nothing more than empty, pointless gestures.

What you said. A point of contention with your tagline, tho. We have most of the real estate. And the guns. Herd the bastards back into their own pestholes, and kick 'em out of the Union.

Yes, his whole point is taking from those who do things and giving to those who don’t or cannot do things.

You call that Communism.

Well it did start that way.

Article II. Each state retains its sovereignty, freedom, and independence, and every power, jurisdiction, and right, which is not by this Confederation expressly delegated to the United States, in Congress assembled.

I e-mailed the link to my daughter in Hutto. My son-in-law is a corporate attorney, and spends time in Washington and with the Legislature here (and other states). He is a conservative, but not as staunch as I am.

My daughter is harder right than him. When she was in college at OU she called me one night excited, and asked if I was watching TV. I told her no, that I was operating my Ham rig, talking to my friends. She said “you have got to turn on the TV Dad, Rush Limbaugh in on and he is hillarious!” I thought to myself, what have I done?

She and my son were the only 2 children at the NM State Republican Convention when Reagan ran the 2nd time. I was county Chairman, and my wife was one of the delegates. My daughter climbed over several rows of seats to shake hands with W’s Dad and Barbara. You should have seen the look on Barbara’s face to see a child (probably 9 years old) at the convention.

Get active in your state, and I will be active in mine. May have to move, though, when this gets going.

It has been a very long time since I was politically involved.

The last time I held an office was in 1985.

That does not mean I don’t observe things.

“...declare that when the compact by which the nation was formed is ignored...”

What compact would that be?

“...then the breach permits dissolution of the union.”

Why should the States which, in accordance with the Articles of Confederation obligated themselves to “perpetual Union between the States”, agree to dissolution of the union because of any breach by the Federal Government they selected to replace their failed previous government? Instead of dissolution of the union, why not dissolution of the failed Federal Government and replacement of it with something else?

You're in.

Live free or die...NH may have forgotten what that means but those of us who remain the spiritual descendants of Nathan Hale will have to practice what we preach. Too bad about NH; it was very conservative til it got overrun with Massachussetts socialists.

The Constitution is the contract which forms the basis of the Union. The Civil War was fought over whether a state could leave the Union because it was losing politically, even though the rules of the game were being followed.

In the current situation, the rules are not being followed. They are not even pretending to follow them any more, claiming that the Constitution "evolves", and allowing the federal government to steal ever more power that is not delegated to it by the Constitution.

The states which desire to abide by a Constitution are thus forced to withdraw from a federal system that is un-constitutional and tyrannical. They do not have the power to force the federal government to follow the Constitution, but they may have to power to defend the Constitution within their own territory.

If the movement is successful, it could restore the Constitution in the entirety of the United States. The goal is not dissolution of the US, but restoration of the Constitution for as many people as wish to live in a territory governed by the rule of law. Texas may not be able to force NY to live free, but just maybe, NY can't force Texas to fund its socialism, either. If we can't force NY to go along, so be it. I don't want to fight socialists if they want to be socialists, I just want them to keep it in their socialist states and leave the rest of us alone. Their socialist economies would fail soon enough and they'd be begging to rejoin. They'd have to build walls to keep their people in.
