I didn’t get into health care for the paperwork. I did it to help people - and I know you did, too.
So, when legislation comes along that helps us spend more time treating patients than we do filling out forms, I get excited. And when special interests try to stop that legislation, I get mad.
The Economic Recovery Act that passed the Senate today includes practical steps to improve health IT nationwide and cut down on paperwork. This one bill would do more to modernize the health care industry in one month than we’ve done in the past decade.

Set the record straight
As nurses, our voices are critical in this debate. By explaining the benefits of health IT, we’ll have a seat at the table in deciding how this technology is implemented. Adopting better technology in our hospitals could save about $80 billion nationwide. That’s $80 billion that can be used to fund better staffing and safety.
It also has the potential to cut down on charting & paperwork and reduce errors. Studies show that nurses in hospitals that adopt health IT spend less time documenting patient care and more time delivering it.

You’re right Cathy - you didn’t get into health care for the paperwork - you apparently are in it to be a useful socialist union TOOL.
Did you know that if doctors submit their RX’s thru a ‘special’ computer system hooked up directly with EVERY pharmacy, they get a little extra $$ from Medicaid? In order to do this, ALL of your records, test reports, letters from other docs etc. are in a computer complete with a monitor in each examining room. They even have a field that they can post your picture in along with your demo info.They just type in the RX and shoot it off just like an email.
My former dr went MD-VIP a few years ago; you have to pay a quarterly fee to be his patient. It was about $3000 a year. They still file with your insurance, but you are guaranteed to be seen the same day and get at least an hour of his time. Healthcare for the rich. Like belonging to a country club.
So, us poor people, who can just about afford the copays, can’t pay the price of admission to get real, honest to goodness ‘CARE’. Only our symptoms will be treated, because to find out the cause will cost too much money and take up too much time.
