I think that Obama picking on Rush is a precursor to the Fairness Doctrine institution. He is defining the fight as one of patriotism. Rush (who said he would like to see Obama’s policies fail—of course—we all would) is attacked by Obama as wanting his unholiness to fail. Obama at the very beginning is setting up Rush as a bad guy to his syncophants and the sheeple so he can push this Soviet style speech repression through.

It’s also humerous to think that the uninformed left—the Obama voters even listen to the issues. A few haters do with their communist belief system. Note the cities where Press says that lefty radio is successful—Madison Wisconsin, Portland Oregon, etc. I’m sure its on the global warming station.

Also the DC station was called “Obama 1260”. Yeah, that’s “fair”. Imagine a station called “W 1260” or “What would Reagan do? 1260”. The owner of 1260 also owns successful 570 home of Laura Ingram and the Washington Redskins. He is looking for a profit not Radio Un-Free america.

...bring competition back to talk radio...

Does this mean they want to force all the Chinese language stations to broadcast in Spanish, too? What good is airing diverse opinions if nobody can understand them?

...I presume Press favors legally imposed ideological balance in academia, Hollywood, and big city newspapers?...

Your point is well taken. If the "Fairness Doctrine" were applied to newspapers, movies, TV shows and academia, the way they would like to apply it to Talk Radio, there would be screaming like you never heard before.

However, the FD can only be applied to that area that the government controls, ie, licensed broadcast stations. Talk Radio (or AM radio for the most part) would simply disappear. Already, there are other platforms for which Talk Radio is abundantly suited, and they will prevail.

If it were not for Talk Radio, AM radio would be a thing of the past by now. In Canada, where there is no vigorous (conservative) talk radio, it is already happening. Huge AM stations, flamethrowers like CKY in Winnipeg,a 50,000 watter, are now owned by radio clubs or are simply going black.

Should the FD be enacted in such a way as to throttle Rush (forget most of the others), he'll find another venue(s) from which to reach even more listeners.

Dem’s looking at the FD because of the “public airwaves”...ie govt control...

With the Old Dinasaures Newspapers falling like leaves....if/when the govt props them up, presumeable with ownership.....ala TARP........Fairness Doctrine to be applied there also?

It pisses me off to be sitting in an airport wiating for a plane and the only thing on the airport’s TVs is CNN. That is when I plug in my ipod and sound-canceling headphones and pull out a W. E. B. Griffin novel.

...government should stay out of business except to protect property rights and punish fraudsters.

...and we already have seen them fail at the 'protecting property rights' part....and Madoff's punishment will be...? Interesting that the media of yore actually covered Ruby Ridge, isn't it!

it is important not to let leftists frame the argument. ask the mod to put “censorship doctrine” in parentheses next to the title.

Funny thing is about that is that it IS capitalism at work, even though CNN hates capitalism.
