Snowe, Collins and Specter To Side Against Taxpayers on Socialist Spending Spree (ACTION ALERT)
Cross Action News ^ | 2-7-09 | JB Williams

Every last House Republican and a dozen House Democrats took a hard-line stance against Nancy Pelosi’s effort to stimulate Obama’s rush into unbridled socialism and almost every Senate Republican stands opposed as well. Obama’s Chicken Little Stimulus Package won’t stimulate anything but more government waste and a left-wing power grab, and almost every American taxpayer knows it!

There is absolutely nothing “bi-partisan” about the current legislative process or the so-called “stimulus bill” being produced by that process.

Three token blue state Republicans, all of whom have defected their party principles on many occasions in the past, are selling out the American taxpayer in an effort to retain their blue state Senate seats and buy favor with Democrats for their own pet projects.

“I am writing my Senator, David Vitter, as well as Sen. Mitch McConnell and asking them to do everything possible to remove these clowns from any committee on which they serve. Oh, no, you say, they might switch parties. BFD, they already have.”

Rock on!

Specter needs to be pulled from Judiciary Committee for starters!

Specter Comments on the Stimulus Package Substitute

Friday, February 6, 2009 -

U.S. Senator Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) today made the following comments on the floor of the United States Senate concerning a substitute proposal to the stimulus package:

Madame President, I begin with the enormously serious economic problems facing the United States: an unemployment rate which is rising, 2.8 million jobs lost last year, thousands of people losing their jobs every day, and recognizing the very heavy psychological factor which is at work, cited for the destruction of consumer confidence. The eyes and the ears of the world are on the United States, on the United States government, and on the United States Senate tonight to see whether we will be able to respond to the magnitude of the problem. The psychological impact if we were to reject some activist approach, I think, would be devastating not only on Wall Street and Main Street but all across the face of the globe.

Based on the telephone calls which I’ve gotten in my office, this is a very unpopular vote. Perhaps the tide will turn, but the calls are mounting from one end of the political spectrum saying there are too many expenditures, and the calls are mounting on the other end of the political spectrum saying that there is not enough money being spent on proposals which we are advancing here tonight. Perhaps the tide will turn upon reflection and on analysis of the program which we’re setting forth here.

Perhaps the tide will turn as exemplified by a letter issued today from the United States Chamber of Commerce, a principal spokesman for corporate America and a principal spokesman for conservative America. The Chamber says this: they’re for this legislation because the economy continues to deteriorate. The Chamber is for the bill because it supports pro-growth tax initiatives. The Chamber is for the bill because it applauds the inclusion of tax relief. The Chamber is for the bill because many of the spending-side provisions in the legislation will also provide stimulus to get Americans back to work, focusing on infrastructure spending for roads, rails, public transportation, aviation, inland waterways and ports.

I have already noted certain grave concerns which I have. One is the rush to judgment which we’re a part of. And perhaps a necessary part, when President Obama came to speak to the Republican caucus recently, when my turn came to ask a question, I said “why are you wedded to February 13th? That’s too fast to digest a bill of this magnitude.” I said that we had passed a $700 billion bailout bill, TARP, where we didn’t know what was in the bill, and we didn’t have regular order, hearings, questions, cross-examination, or committee work on the markup line-by-line of the committee report. We didn’t even have floor debate. We made a lot of mistakes. They were compounded by the administration carrying it out.

I voted against the release of the second $350 billion. I said, Mr. President, let’s not do it again. There is nothing magical about February 13th before we start the week of recess for President’s Day. The President responded, emphasizing the severe nature of the problem and telling us all, which he has told us privately, about the serious problems which he sees, which his advisors see with any delay at all. So we are responding to his timetable. I don’t like it, but I’m responding to it.

There are other aspects of this bill which give me heartburn. There is a lot in this bill which ought to be part of the regular Appropriations process. I served for 10 years as Chairman of the subcommittee funding the Departments of Health and Human Services and Education. I have fought hard for many of the items that are in this bill that ought not to be in this bill. They ought to be part of the regular appropriations process where we set an overall budget and we fight it out on priorities. But they’re here because the administration and the bill proposed by the Committee has seen fit to include them.

What have we accomplished here in the amendment which is being offered now? This bill coming to the floor, and these figures are pretty close - they’re hard to be exact - but the bill starts with $885 billion. There are add-ons on the floor of $29.5 billion. The bill as it’s being reported is $781, perhaps $780. So we have reduced the expenditures by $105 billion. That’s a lot of money. And that is something which makes everybody angry.

But that’s the position you’re in if you’re a United States Senator. People are unhappy because they didn’t get the full amount from the Committee report, although absent this bill they get zero additional. People are unhappy about spending too much money, but it is imperative, as I see it, that we do something very, very substantial.

There are reasons to argue that this is a bad bill. I’m not saying it’s a bad bill; I’m saying there are reasons to argue that it’s a bad bill. But I do not believe that there is any doubt that the economy would be enormously worse off without it. That’s the kind of a choice we have to make.

Personally I would prefer not to be on the edge of the pin as so frequently is the case in this body. But I do believe that we have to act, and I believe that under all of the circumstances, this is the best we can do and we ought to do it.

Two words: Term Limits

Either that, or tar and feathers. No, wait, that is three words.....

I've thought for many years it was a major mistake to take the election of US Senators away from State Legislatures. This is a glaring example of why that is so.....

I heard that Voinovich went over as well.

They are parlaying with marxist enemies of all we hold dear in this Republic and are actively taking part in the dismantling of the free market.

At some point (and it is already starting), many citizens will be led to understand what the mother of one those killed on the Cole said this week...

"I voted for Obama but am beginning to realize that ,may have been a mistake."

Well...duh!

Obama promised absolute fundamnetal change for America and his 2001 NPR interview aired before election day where he openly sopke of wealth redistribution...so it was clear that he meant far more than an accellerated withdrawal time table from Iraq (which, thank God, Prsident BUsh had already won before this man took power).

Obama openly promised to side with the Islamics if the winds of public opinion blew against them. Obama promised to negotiate unconditionally with the abject, openly avowed enemies of this nation. Obama promised to undo all that Bush had done on abortion restriction and make the FOCA (Frredom of Choice Act - which will remove virtually all federal restrictions on abortion for the entire pregnancy), Obama promised to restore federal funding for international abortions, Obama promised to work with congress and pass through more gun restrictions (AWB, TAx on Ammo, etc.).

Now he is going about doing all of that, very quickly, and more.

We must stand as citizens against this rampant and blatant move towards marxism and unmittigated disaster in our nation. We must calmly go about educating others using reason, level headedness and common sense, we must build a spine in all GOP senators particularly so that they will absolutely fear, immediately for their political lives, we must establish a strong beach head in 2010 to stem and contain the damage, and thenn march on to total victory in 2012.

I suggest recalling them. Damage to our country may be irreversible by the time they are up for re-election.

“”I gave up hope with Specter ever being replaced. He’ll be in the Senate until he breathes his last breath.””

Is there any chance Rick Santorum will run again and take on Specter?

I agree with you about doing something NOW. This refrain of "just wait to 2010" is growing a bit tiresome. People need to check their history a little before naively plunging ahead with this belief...its a dangerous gamble.

From the www.thefroginthekettle.com website: "The Election Turn-Over Solution. Many believe this is just the typical back and forth between election cycles, the dems have it for a while and then the republicans have it back for a while. They say things like “you just wait til 2010 when we get the Congress back” or “they’re gonna over-reach and then…fill in the blank.” Little history folks; guess who ran the House from 1954-1995 (a short 41 YEARS!). Hint, the democrats. During the same period, 1954-1995, the democrats held the Senate 80.95% of the time, often with very and I mean VERY wide margins. So, for those of you who think it’s just a given to “get the Congress back” when the democrats crank up the treasury printing presses, you’d better think again. The republican party may be back in the wilderness for decades. Personally, I don’t think we’re going to get the House back anytime soon and the Senate looks just a daunting. Why? Let’s just say we have a little less than inspiring leadership at the helm right now.

This must ALWAYS be referred to as the Obama spending bill
These three must always be singly described as the only 3 republicans who voted FOR the $1.2 TRILLION DOLLAR OBAMA SPENDING BILL

Number of jobs created must be tracked and widely publicized

fraud waste and abuse must also be exposed and widely reported.

I cannot wait for the first BOOTY CALL and SEXAPALOOZA festivals in California that will receive OBAMA SPENDING PLAN money

Is it still possible to get Snowe, Collins and Specter (Mr Magic Bullet) to change their votes for monday.

Why would they go against the will of the people? Don't they check their mail & messages?

I wish Sessions or someone knowledgeable would have a talk with them.

It’s hard to believe that Maine has sunk to the level of the two baffoon senators they now have remembering former Sen. Margaret Chase Smith, the first woman nominee for President. The RNC, federal and state, spearheaded by Michael Steele need to jettison these loons out of the party as first priority.

My latest e-mail to Arlen Specter

Dear Senator Specter

I wrote you a letter 2 days ago to encourage you to hold the line on this spending monstrosity that is up for a vote in the US Senate. It seems that I am not the only voter in PA with similar concerned as you acknowledge in your comments on the Senate Floor last night. However I am dismayed with the bulk of your comments and your determination to “do something” . This is truly reckless and a grave disregard for the taxpayers money during a recession. This will only make matters worse and will shackle our kids and grandkids for years with debt. It will cause monetary inflation which more harmful than a recession. You should remember this very thing as you were in the Senate during the late seventies.

Be aware of this: If you vote for this reckless sham I will demand that you go the way of Rick Santorum for selling out the Conservative voters. If Bob Casey was a pro-choice Democrat Rick might have had a chance. But I know a lot of conservatives would rather vote Democratic than vote to re-instate a Senator who repeatedly sells them out. You did it on the impeachment of Bill Clinton, and you are about to do it again. If you are going to side against your party we conservatives WILL work to defeat you in the primary and will not show up in the general election if you are the Republican nominee. You yourself know this is an unpopular vote. I doubt 1 year will be enough time for the voters to forget.

John McCain was on a roll until mid-september when he started grandstanding and sold out the voters with The TARP bill. You would be wise to heed that and vote NO on this bill. We will be watching and we will remember. Hold the line, vote NO.

There is probably a 60% chance the cycle of economic recovery starts by 2010 midterms. There is probably a 97% chance that the recovery has started by 2012.

So, we need to make clear that the strength of the American worker and economy will survive even Obama and this Big Government bill.

Better to diversify attack on the national security area. Afterall, he has already passed exec. orders to shut down Guantanamo, stop trials of terrorists, likely allow terrorists to go free, vowed a 10% cut to military and lost our key supply base in Krygystan that supplies Obama’s jewel on the War on Terror.

I am sorry you have that creep Senator Vitter. What a shame. Although hopefully he will be kicked to the curb in 2010. What a disgrace and still representing the Republicans. Ugh! Don’t expect much from him. He is probably on the phone with the sexphone folks.
