Tedisco meeting with Republican National Committee chairman

NEW YORK -- The road to a special election continues for both candidates hoping to become the next congressman for the 20th district.

Assembly Minority Leader Jim Tedisco is meeting with newly-elected Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele.

Steele is Maryland's lieutenant governor and will now run the show for the GOP. He was elected on Friday. Tedisco's meeting with Steele comes one day after opening his campaign headquarters in Clifton Park. The Democrats' pick, Glens Falls businessman Scott Murphy, is also gaining support. Murphy joined Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in Washington.

Murphy and Tedisco will run against each other in a special election. Governor David Paterson has yet to set a date

My best memory of Assembly leader Jim Tedisco is when I saw him at a prolife gathering where Henry Hyde was the guest speaker.

I believe this election will receive national attention, because it is Michael Steele's first election, and the winner of this election will replace Kirsten Gillibrand (who was appointed to Hillary Clinton's seat).

“Jim Tedisco has been a true friend to hunters and gun owners, as he understands the crucial importance of safeguarding the right to bear arms. His voting record and vocal, public support for the Second Amendment have been clear, consistent and genuinely appreciated by gun owners and our association,” said Tom King president of the state Rifle and Pistol Association.
