Thune had the right idea: RINOs bail on him and us

Sen. Thune (SD - R) introduced an amendment (S. AMDT #238) to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (Amendment in Senate) [H.R.1.AS] that would prohibit using money authorized from that Act to be used on any new federal government programs created as a result of the stimulus bill.

It was voted on today. Defeat: 35-62-2. Yeas were all pubs. Nays all dems, plus, of course, Sanders. Lieberman is a bit of a disappointment. But the list of pubs voting Nay are worth noting - no surprises, mind you, but this is the list to mark for defeat as we reconstitute the party.

Pubs voting Nay: Collins (R-ME), Lugar (R-IN), Martinez (R-FL), Snowe (R-ME), and Specter (R-PA).

Good ‘ol RINOs. They care more about their position than people.

In PA and ME you’re lucky to get any Rs at all, which is why we tolerate those 3 ultra-RINOs.

Remember, Lugar is the idiot who has of recent been calling for a $1 per gallon additional tax on gasoline to help break America's appetite for oil...

My husband is a big Thune supporter, he will be glad to read this. He contributed to John Thune’s campaign when he defeated Daschle. I hope we don’t ever hear about Daschle again. Now Pelosi and Reid!

Martinez isn’t running again, is he? I tried to contact his office once about some bill (I was calling ALL the known RINOs) and his secretary refused to speak in English and then someone else got on line, asked me what State I was calling from and told me to call my own Senator.

I thought it was rather rude of the secretary to act as if I had to speak Spanish or she wouldn’t talk to me.

I then used the email access at www.usa.gov and told him exactly what I thought about his biased secretary.

Specter is not consistent and more often than not, he votes along with the Dems. He acted like he was not going to approve Holder then he ends up voting to approve him! He’s all show, it seems. Make his constituents think he’s on their side but then votes with McCain and other liberals.

Martinez isn’t running for reelection. Richard Lugar, the senior GOP Senator was relected with 87% of the vote in 2006 (the Democrats did not run a candidate). He is up for reelection in 2012, when he will be 80. Arlen Spector will be up for election in 2010, when HE will be 80. The last Republican Patriot from Maine was Governor Joshua Chamberlain, the hero of the Battle of Little Roundtop at Gettysburg.

Thank god for real Republicans like Thune and Coburn. Watching C-SPAN yesterday reminded me that we have a few reasonable people left in the Senate.
