Okay.

I remember the first time I ever heard of Bruce Springsteen. It was because he had accomplished a first in public relations/marketing by having his photo appear on the cover of Time and Newsweek magazine in the same week.

Bruce's publicity agent must have earned a nice bonus for that rare double!

Never really understood the hype -- and I'm from the Philadelphia area where Bruce was really big (still is, I guess). If I had to guess I'd say that Bruce came in at a very bad time for Rock & Roll. Many of the veteran bands were gone, Disco was pretty much in vogue, and New Wave wasn't really here yet. Bruce caught the wave perfectly, from a sales & marketing standpoint. I'll give him that much.
