>> What exactly is a RINO?

We should get one thing straight. I am NOT a republican. I am a conservative. I support the Republican party exactly to the extent that they represent my views.

Currently, they don’t very well. Not very well at all.

Conservatives are welcome in the GOP. Extremists are not.

BTW, to what obscure third party do you belong?

I never said you were a Republican.

Care to answer my question?

Look, newbie, you’re the guy who says (with a certain presumptuous air about you) who is and who isn’t “welcome” in the GOP.

YOU tell ME, newbie, just what does the Republican party stand for these days?

Anything at all?

Actually, a RINO is pretty much what a Republican was before Reagan, other than the Goldwater wing, which was pretty small. It's the Rockefeller wing of the party. Old money rich, socially liberal, primarily pushing legislation to benefit large businesses and corporations.

The Republican hierarchy didn't like Reagan, and in fact, pushed Bush I on him as VP. They tried to push Gerald Ford on him, and insist that Ford actually be installed as a "co-president" to reign in Reagan's "dangerous tendencies."

The Republican hierarchy endured Reagan, and those of us they consider to be beneath them who voted for Reagan, and were more than happy to take our votes. However, they neither like us nor care to be associated with us. Their current plan is to throw us out and get people who won't vote Republican because of our stance on being pro-life or supporting the right to keep and bear arms to replace us.

They run that way every election until they start getting creamed, then they come back to us. I'm starting to feel like a battered wife.

Excuse me .. we already know where he stands on what .. we have his senate votes for that .. AS WELL AS HIS FIRST ACT AS PRESIDENT .. HE REWROTE BUSH’s EO - THE ONE WHERE BUSH SAID WE ARE NO LONGER GOING TO FUND ABORTION OVERSEAS.

THAT TOTALLY SETTLES IT FOR ME - IF HE WANTS TO USE MY TAX DOLLARS FOR HIS SHAMEFUL PRACTICE OF ABORTION .. HE’S SCUM.

So you can keep your “rush to judgement” and you know where you can dump it.

In order to form a successful political party, one has to ally one’s self with those with whom they disagree on a number of issues. Would you really rather have Whitman and her supporters join the Democrats? Our numbers are few already.

Let me fill you in on a little secret the RNC doesn't want let out. The GOP Conservative Exodus began when she and her friend made the 1996 GOP Convention into a Liberal Big Tent Freak Show. The GOP's been on a loosing binge ever since election wise. The sellout began months earlier than that though in the senate under Lott.

Guess what else the RNC has yet to learn? Jerry Ford was wrong when he asked or said "Where else can they go" Meaning of course the Conservative base. Well they left the party in many cases leaving what remaining? Liberals took control of the party since early 1996 and now only a few Conservatives who's numbers now dwindle down day by day remain.

We do not need nor can we survive as a nation with two simuliar Liberal Parties which is what Christie and Friends have turned the GOP into. Yes Chrissie & Friends should join the DEMs as she has much more in common with them. One of the two has to go from the GOP either the Liberals or Conservatives. The Liberal GOP rule in both house since 1996 -2006 was one disaster after another. The GOP/RNC died over a decade ago. Time for mourning it is over. Nothing nor no one can save it at this point. Conservatives need to unite and form a second political party. This is the only politically healthy course left.

Welcome Mr. Steele.......I think MS will be great.....he's a great speaker, quick with answers, has charisma, and he will be a welcome change....

you know many years ago the Republican party was the party of progress and change......

somehow, we've got stuck in this "my way or the highway" attitude....

we'd better start gathering our forces instead of creating more antagonism among ourselves...

its a long, hard battle ahead and we NEED everyone on board to fight the leftist communists ...

Very well said! You have nailed it! Bob Barr was NO conservative but even some on here were touting him. I am proud to say I am a Conservative Republican up front. Shame some of the ones that trash the GOP don’t bother to state where they are from in the political spectrum.

These 3rd Party or Dems on here trying to trash Michael Steele without the facts are outing themselves one by one.

Wanted Blackwell or Steele so I was happy either way. Did not want the SC Chair with his baggage or anyone else from the RNC.

One thing I like already was Steele is basically saying this bipartisan, working across the aisle, stuff isn’t working.. he basically said the GOP has to grow a pair and I agree.
