The only thing wrong with the Crusades was they weren’t effective. Should have siezed Mecca and correctly dealt with the religious leaders who had said convert or be killed.
There were some mistakes like sacking Constaninople. Never loose control of your army and never let the “leader” of the army leave to go see his counsin, and never let your army fail to have enough $$ to pay for its own transportation costs. In short the Crusades were a good idea but should not have been under control of the Church. Churchmen do not study military strategy enough to be any good at it.
“There were some mistakes like sacking Constaninople.”
This ‘mistake’ of the fourth crusade (I imagine the actual army was not unhappy with the arrangement by the time it happened) may have had very long-reaching impact on european history. How would things have been different in the following centuries without this event?
The did guess wrong....and so Vizzini says to them:
You only think I guessed wrong! That’s what’s so funny! I switched glasses when your back was turned! Ha ha! You fool! You fell victim to one of the classic blunders! The most famous is never get involved in a land war in Asia, but only slightly less well-known is this: never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Ha ha ha...
Princess Bride...just a little diddy to bring some laughter into the day...
