Why? There was no travel ban for US citizens, despite internet rumors. We've had Freepers tell us they went there in that time period. Hell, the NY Times travel section ran an article on exotic Lahore in 1982.
The NYT, knowing that the 20 year old Barack Obama traveled to Pakistan in 1981 ran the story in an effort to cover for Obama for his trip there that summer. /sarcasm
