Obama Looking for Republican Cover

Barack Obama is looking for Republican Cover regarding his stimulus package, by meeting with Republicans today on Capital Hill. He is hoping to convince them to support his $850+ billion stimulus package, thinking that he would placate them by removing the contraception-funding provisions. What he forgets is that the contraceptive funding is only one example of what most Republicans consider a package laden with wasteful spending (funding for Acorn is another example, but far from the only one) that will have limited or no positive effect on the economy; in fact, it will likely have a negative effect.

What Republicans object to is not one single provision or another, but the direction of the bill towards Keynesian spending rather than supply-side tax cuts, which have been proven to work time and time again. There is no upside for Republicans to go along with the Obama plan.

Were I a Republican legislator (and i am glad I am not), my response would be, “Kiss my A$$.”

“Republican Cover” is tantamount to what Rand called the victim’s sanction. Nothing more.

I’ve seen this tired, awful little Kabuki dance before, and I know exactly how it ends. A whole lot of bluff and bluster, followed by the usual cave-in.

** EXACTLY **

This fraud is looking to kill the possibility of the Republican wipe out of Clinton’s first budget bill. Not ONE Republican (real Republicans) voted for Clinton’s bill then (1979 ?) and that scenario set up the major House Republican win for a long time.

Obama is ONLY trying to prevent this kind of loss and he wants as many Repub names on this fraud of a pork and welfare bill because IT IS GOING TO FAIL -—— absolute disaster.

I hope they're smart enough to realize they're being played.

We will make a note of every single Republican who votes for this. And they will PAY.

Me too, I hope that they realize the historical analog, too, but I doubt it. We just don’t have a leader anymore like Newt. These guys could really REALLY set themselves up to start making gains in 2010 and instead they will eventually just roll over so Katie Couric will say nice things about them.

We can vote against them and put a Democrat in their place.

Republicans could deal with Keynesian spending if it was to be spent on truly stimulative choices

This bill from everything I have read, is a pig with a WHOLE lot of lipstick, masquerading as a “stimuls”

If it votes like a Democrat, sounds like a Democrat, it IS a Democrat. We may end up putting Democrats in their place, but it wont affect the outcome of future bills and legislations that much because they would vote the same way anyway. But so called 'Republicans' will get the message as to how they need to vote in order to be elected by their constituents.

It is incomprehensible that any republican would vote for this. How can it not be glaringly obvious that this pork bonanza is destined to fail?

If Obama was certain it would work and its result would be wildly popular, he wouldn’t need Republican buy-in. For that matter, if he actually thought it would work, it would be BETTER for him NOT to have Republican involvement, thereby enabling him to declare victory in the face of Republican opposition. Which of course would mean Democrats win more seats in 2010 because the Republicans stood in the way of a successful economic rescue.

If republicans vote yes and it actually works, Obama will give them no credit and they won’t win a single seat back in 2010 on the heels of a Democrat-led economic revival.

If Republicans vote yes and it fails, they get the blame for watering down Obama’s brilliant vision.

A Yes vote is a loser for the Republicans, regardless of the outcome. As has been stated, Obama only wants Republican cover so he has someone to blame when it goes down the crapper.

If these Republican senators and representatives have half a brain, they will loudly vote NO for this and make it perfectly clear that Obama and the Democrats solely own the disastrous outcome.

Even if it were straight-up Keynesian spending, I wouldn't want Republicans to buy into that. The last thing we need is to continue to grow government with an economic tool that isn't nearly as effective as tax cuts.

Yes. That is EXACTLY what they SHOULD do -— but.....

We shall see. So much is riding on this horrible situation.

All Obamessiah has to do is dial 1-800-JMc-Cain and he and Grahamesty will be there for him! You know, in the name of bipartisan politics, and if those two aren’t enough, he can ring our pals, Orin Hatch or Arlen Specter. I’m sure they will help too. As long as it’s screwing Americans, there’s no shortage of traitors who will gladly do their part.
