O.K., I'm going to disagree with your whole post. Citing that statement above is just the tip-o-the-iceberg.
IMO (never-to-be-humble) most people in this country are more conservative than socialist, yes, even the ones who vote for dummycrats.
The problem is that all those conservatives are as ignorant as stones about our government, politicians, the economy, foreign policy, etc., and therefore have no idea who they should support and vote for.

Not so fast there FRiend. You are correct, but you're missing one component...advertising. Our media has essentially become a defacto advertising organ, exercising all the same mechanisms and enjoying all the same results. Simple education is NOT sufficient to overcome an advertising campaign that makes contact every time news consumer turns to a conventional source of information.
I maintain the "news media" of today has no more in common with the press referred to in the Constitution than the "arms" of that time do with the modern variety.
