I've not had difficulty distinguishing propaganda from fact.

I don't know about that. You seem to be pretty convinced that McCarthy led a big government witch hunt against innocent citizens, even though evidence shows that he was actually correct. Where did the impression of the big bad witch hunt come from?

Here's another example: when you think of your average Vietnam veteran, do you think of a suit and tie-wearing CEO, or do you think of scruffy-faced guy wandering around half-drunk wearing an old field jacket? When you think of Tet 68, do you think "epic NVA failure" or do you think "massive defeat for the US"? Hollywood worked very hard to promote lies about both, and now the lies are considered common knowledge.

not sure if you are being sarcastic... The kangaroo court was what they paraded McCarthy in front of. Liberals made up "blacklisted" as an enhancement of their careers... sorta like a "red badge of courage."

No non-communist was ever accused. Basically, it had come to the attention of Congress the commies began infiltrating the US gov't during the late 20's and into the 30's. We ignored the problem because the USSR was our "ally." Prior to Hitler's turn on the Soviets, the USSR actually produced pro-Nazi publications within the US..... when Hitler turned on the Soviets, the propaganda turned on a dime as well.

People (mainly within what became the State Dept) were working against the US' best interest... once they were found out, they often resigned and later moved to other govt positions.

a famous "victim" was Annie Lee Moss; a worker at the code room of the Pentagon. During the procedings, she was made out to be a poor helpless illiterate black-mammy being harassed by the evil Senator McCarthy.

From the 'Kangaroo Court' otherwise known as the Army-McCarthy Hearings

http://historymatters.gmu.edu/d/6444

Mr. WELCH. Mr. Cohn, tell me once more: Every time you learn of a Communist or a spy anywhere, is it your policy to get them out as fast as possible?

Mr. COHN. Surely, we want them out as fast as possible, sir.

Mr. WELCH. And whenever you learn of one from now on, Mr. Cohn, I beg of you, will you tell somebody about them quick?

Mr. COHN. Mr. Welch, with great respect, I work for the committee here. They know how we go about handling situations of Communist infiltration and failure to act on FBI information about Communist infiltration. If they are displeased with the speed with which I and the group of men who work with me proceed, if they are displeased with the order in which we move, I am sure they will give me appropriate instructions along those lines, and I will follow any which they give me.

Mr. WELCH. May I add my small voice, sir, and say whenever you know about a subversive or a Communist spy, please hurry. Will you remember those words?

Senator MCCARTHY. Mr. Chairman.

Mr. COHN. Mr. Welch, I can assure you, sir, as far as I am concerned, and certainly as far as the chairman of this committee and the members, and the members of the staff, are concerned, we are a small group, but we proceed as expeditiously as is humanly possible to get out Communists and traitors and to bring to light the mechanism by which they have been permitted to remain where they were for so long a period of time.

Senator MCCARTHY. Mr. Chairman, in view of that question—

Senator MUNDT. Have you a point of order?

Senator MCCARTHY. Not exactly, Mr. Chairman, but in view of Mr. Welch’s request that the information be given once we know of anyone who might be performing any work for the Communist Party, I think we should tell him that he has in his law firm a young man named Fisher whom he recommended, incidentally, to do work on this committee, who has been for a number of years a member of an organization which was named, oh, years and years ago, as the legal bulwark of the Communist Party, an organization which always swings to the defense of anyone who dares to expose Communists. I certainly assume that Mr. Welch did not know of this young man at the time he recommended him as the assistant counsel for this committee, but he has such terror and such a great desire to know where anyone is located who may be serving the Communist cause, Mr. Welch, that I thought we should just call to your attention the fact that your Mr. Fisher, who is still in your law firm today, whom you asked to have down here looking over the secret and classified material, is a member of an organization, not named by me but named by various committees, named by the Attorney General, as I recall, and I think I quote this verbatim, as “the legal bulwark of the Communist Party.” He belonged to that for a sizable number of years, according to his own admission, and he belonged to it long after it had been exposed as the legal arm of the Communist Party. ...

...

Senator MCCARTHY. May I say that Mr. Welch talks about this being cruel and reckless. He was just baiting; he has been baiting Mr. Cohn here for hours, requesting that Mr. Cohn, before sundown, get out of any department of Government anyone who is serving the Communist cause. I just give this man’s record, and I want to say, Mr. Welch, that it has been labeled long before he became a member, as early as 1944—

Mr. WELCH. Senator, may we not drop this? We know he belonged to the Lawyers Guild, and Mr. Cohn nods his head at me. I did you, I think, no personal injury, Mr. Cohn.

Mr. COHN. No, sir.

Mr. WELCH. I meant to do you no personal injury, and if I did, beg your pardon. Let us not assassinate this lad further, Senator. You have done enough. Have you no sense of decency sir, at long last? Have you left no sense of decency?

Senator MCCARTHY. I know this hurts you, Mr. Welch. But I may say, Mr. Chairman, on a point of personal privilege, and I would like to finish it—

This exchange was one that labeled McCarthy as a tyrant out to destroy innocent lives... However, Mr. Welch had determined (several months prior) to leave Mr Fisher at the law firm in Mass because it could be viewed a conflict of interest... having a member of a Communist Front on the panel.

The "have you no decency" line was for dramatic effect in front of the news cameras.... Welch was later quoted asking his friends how they liked the display

I don't look down on Vietnam veterans at all. I think they gave an enormous sacrifice for an unappreciative nation. I respect them.

That being said, I think the politicians did a poor job of conducting that war, and honestly I don't think we should have ever gone in in the first place. Hindsight is 20/20.

I lean more paleoconservative, and I feel that non-interventionism is the best policy in most cases.

I'm afraid you missed my point. I don't mean to debate the conduct of the Vietnam War, nor question your view of veterans. My point was that the conventional wisdom for the last few decades has been that Vietnam veterans are emotionally scarred shell-shocked men and that Tet 68 was a massive US defeat. If you were to bring up either subject, most people would regurgitate that line of thinking, even though it is completely wrong. That conventional wisdom is solely a product of Hollywood media propaganda, but people accept it so completely as truth, that it can affect their entire worldview. All the hippies who love to run around and do anti-war protests, both then and now, wouldn't be quite as "cool" if the media would have shown the wars as wars of protection of simple people from murderous tyrants, instead of portraying those wars as the slaughter of innocent civilians by bloodthirsty US troops. The media have been lying and re-writing history for decades.

Can anyone tell me (via google or whatever) what the Rosenberg’s address was in Albuquerque? I have read it was on High street and I’d love to know if the house is still there...I lived on High street years ago.

I think the Rosenberg address is mentioned in the Ron Radosh/Joyce
Milton book on the case. Joyce used to post on FR. What ever happened to her?

Too bad we lost that edge.

I’d sacrifice watching Foxs News for a, well forever, to hook a bunch of traitorous traitors to the transformer on the pole down the street.
