Traditionally, when Jewish folks decide to “assimilate,” they change their names. Esther Rosenblum (correct me if I’m wrong, FRiends) becomes Ayn Rand. The Soros family chose, as their new name, the future tense of the Esperanto verb meaning “to soar.”
According to Wikipedia, her name was Alisa Zinov'yevna Rosenbaum, or Алиса Зиновьевна Розенбаум. The Objectivism Reference Center Agrees on the name. Wiki also says "Rand" is a Cyrilic contraction of her last name.
